Chapter 1061: Repaying the Debt
Zhao Changlin didn’t say a word, just focused on driving the horse cart.
The children in the village had already returned with wild vegetables on their backs.
"How come it’s only kids in Li Family Village? Where are the adults?"
"They have side businesses, Li Family Village has left us far behind."
The brigade office was empty, so they had to ask the kids.
"You wait here, I’ll go get our village chief for you."
The children all knew that the village chief would definitely be at the chicken farm at this time; someone would soon come to deliver eggs. The chief had to check twice a day.
Li Yungui had just finished counting the eggs, a total of three hundred and eighty over two days.
Li Cunshan was responsible for driving to the county’s supply and marketing cooperative to deliver them. A basket of a hundred was set aside for the local cooperative, and the remaining two hundred and eighty were sent to the county.
That was all, and the county still thought it was too little, saying there must be a guarantee for the county’s supply.
Li Yungui knew that the city also wanted eggs delivered, but there really weren’t that many available right now.
There were only two hundred hens laying eggs, but there were also three hundred and sixty-five half-grown hens. In a couple of months, they’d start laying too.
Jiang Xinyu had already said that by winter, they’d be heating the coops with stoves, as they were initially designed with floor heating. That way, egg production wouldn’t be affected.
Hearing children yelling for him outside, Li Yungui stepped out.
"Hu Zi, what’s the matter?"
"Second Grandpa, a big horse cart arrived at the brigade office with three people. One of them I recognize; it’s the village chief from Jin Family Village."
"Got it, thank you, you can go back now."
"Okay, Dahai and the others are waiting for me to go cut grass with them."
Li Yungui smiled and nodded. The kids were helpful; they started cutting grass early to prepare animal feed for the winter.
Knowing this was Wang Shulin coming to repay the debt, he sent someone to find Li Yunqiang to come to the brigade office.
"Haha, a rare guest, come in and have a seat."
"I’m here to see the creditor."
"You can’t say that, who doesn’t have difficult times now and then?"
The four went into the brigade office, where Li Yungui poured them water. The tea set was given by Jiang Xinyu, saying it represented the brigade’s face.
"Old Li, we’re really here to pay the debt." Wang Shulin finished with a wink at Li Yungui, hoping he understood his meaning.
"Haha, I really do need money urgently. But since it’s you, I didn’t have the heart to come and ask."
Wang Shulin felt relieved; this Li Yungui really was perceptive.
"Old Wang, hurry back and arrange people; in two days, we’ll go pick up the tractor."
"Okay, I’ll assign two people for the task. This is Zhao Changlin, captain of the third team, let him and Xiaohe go together, so I feel assured.
By the way, I want to get two tractors. Do you think it’s possible?"
"I don’t know about that; you know only Xiao Wei has influence. This time Xiao Wei gave the harvester blueprints for free to the tractor factory, otherwise how would we readily have a chance to pick up a tractor whenever we want?"
"Later, talk to Xiao Wei. If there’s definite news, I’ll gather funds; if not, we’ll just get one."
"We’ll ask Xiao Wei when he comes later."
"Isn’t Xiao Wei going?"
"He went with my big brother to the province earlier, but now he refuses to go anywhere."
"It’d be great if he went; he’s good to talk to."
"I asked him, but he won’t go. Besides, the family can’t do without him."
"Old Li, I really envy you for having such a capable person in your village."
"Who wouldn’t envy it? It’s our fortune."
"Well, it’s also because you’re good to him," Wang Shulin sincerely envied.
"They don’t need me to treat them well; both husband and wife are capable. They just had a tough time for a while. Look at them now, aren’t they doing great?"
Wang Shulin nodded; indeed, they were both talented people.
Li Yungui looked outside and saw some kids, "Dapeng, Dapeng."
"Second Grandpa, what’s up?" A young boy ran in to ask Li Yungui.
"Go tell your Master Wei to come to the brigade office."
"Okay, I’ll go get him now."
The kids knew Wei Kaiyun would be over at the pesticide factory at this time.
A few people sat around chatting, and Li Yunqiang arrived. Seeing Wang Shulin, he knew this was about repaying the debt.
"Village Chief Wang."
"Yunqiang, we’ve been waiting for you."
"Haha, I didn’t know Village Chief Wang was coming; otherwise, I’d have waited at home."
The two accountants exchanged money, while Li Yungui and Wang Shulin chatted.
The amount of money was correct. "Village Chief Wang, won’t you stay for lunch?"
"There are still lots of things back home; I’m waiting for Xiao Wei. We want to get one more tractor."
"Then I won’t hold you, holding this much money makes me nervous."
After Li Yunqiang left, the four of them just waited. Mostly it was Wang Shulin and Li Yungui chatting, with the other two occasionally chiming in.
Wei Kaiyun was registering quantities, noting that Chaoyang had returned, and would soon head to the capital, so Guodong should go to the province.
Everyone knew that the Lu Family siblings were his wife’s relatives, so no one objected to him helping Guodong.
Children weren’t allowed in there, so they could only wait outside.
After he was done, Wei Kaiyun learned that Li Yungui was calling him to the brigade office and wondered why.
Upon entering and seeing Wang Shulin, he realized it was about the tractor.
"Village Chief Wang."
"Xiao Wei, I’ve been waiting for you."
"Sorry, I was busy earlier. What can I do for you, Village Chief Wang?"
"Xiao Wei, can we get an extra tractor?"
"An extra tractor?"
"Yes, our village is big with lots of land. Earlier we ordered one because we had no money, but now that we’ve paid the public grain, there’s a bit of money in hand, and after a meeting, everyone’s willing to pitch in. We could come up with the money for one more tractor."
"Village Chief Wang, that’s difficult; you know how popular these things are. How about this—wait until after autumn to get another one. This time, there’s really no way to ask for more.
Even if I put my face on the line, it won’t work. The entire year is planned out."
Wei Kaiyun truly didn’t want to overstep; sometimes, if you’re too pushy, you’ll lose the chance to speak up in the future.
Wang Shulin sighed. "Alright, Xiao Wei, just make sure to reserve one for us, we’ll go fetch the tractor after autumn."
"Sure, I’ll definitely have a word with them. I can’t guarantee it, but I’ll do my best."
"With your word, I feel at ease. Thank you, Xiao Wei."
"No need to be polite, Village Chief Wang, you’ve always taken care of my family when my kids were in your village. I should thank you."
"It was my duty. They’re all good kids." Wang Shulin hurriedly smiled and said.
