Chapter 996 Dinner
Shang Zhenkun spent so much time with the two children, how could he not notice? But since the kids don’t want to talk about it now, that’s fine, they need some privacy.
"You two, come over and help. We’ll need this table tonight."
Shi Jing glanced at Jing Chu, seeing that his sister was feeling much better, he was relieved.
Yang Zhongyi was quite frustrated, but he knew he shouldn’t say anything. He squatted down to help, still needing to win over his future father-in-law.
"Jing Chu, go back to your room and rest for a bit," Lv Beiguang instructed his daughter while standing.
"Okay, I’ll go inside."
The five people, young and old, in the yard were repairing the table.
"Master Shang, what material is this? It’s so sturdy."
"Jianbin, you know this stuff?"
Jianbin looked confused at Lv Beiguang; he really didn’t know, just felt the table was very sturdy. He didn’t know anything else.
Shang Zhenkun brought back a total of four tables and ten chairs, all made of good wood; with a little repair, the family could continue using them.
It wasn’t until three-thirty in the afternoon that they finally finished the repairs. Du Fengying and Zhang Qiu’e wiped them over and over.
"Sister Du, Sister Zhang, should we start preparing dinner?"
"No rush, everything’s ready. We’ll put the dishes in the pot to steam when we cook the rice tonight."
Jianbin and the other two followed Shang Zhenkun into the house and obediently lay down on the kang to rest without speaking.
Jiang Xinyu and Wei Kaiyun set off at two in the afternoon. Zhao Xiaoli was holding Tingting in the back.
The two children found everything fascinating, their eyes weren’t enough to take it all in.
Jiang Xinyu, holding Shi Xian, also sat in the back, but Shi Xian wanted Feifei to hold him after getting in the car. Zhao Xiaoqiang sat in the front.
All the way, Shi Xian kept making "Oh Oh Oh Oh" sounds.
"Xinyu, Shi Xian will definitely find it hard to sit still at home in the future."
"No doubt? I worry just watching this child, he’ll surely not have a quiet moment later."
Shi Xian knew they were talking about him, so he showed his two big front teeth and smiled at Jiang Xinyu.
Zhao Xiaoli burst out laughing, "Shi Xian is too clever."
"He’ll be hard to manage when he grows up." Jiang Xinyu sighed, gently tapping her son’s forehead with her finger, this little rascal.
Jiang Xinyu took her son back, worried that her daughter would get tired. The little rascal was unwilling and burrowed into Feifei’s arms.
Jiang Tingting gazed eagerly at her mother, and Jiang Xinyu took her from Zhang Xiaoli’s lap.
The ground temperature had already risen, and the snow was not as slippery as before.
Wei Kaiyun drove faster than before, but he was still careful because his wife and children were seated in the back.
Once home, they drove the car into the yard before getting out.
Shi Xian seemed to vaguely remember this place, so he fidgeted in Wei Kaiyun’s arms, hardly ever sitting still.
Shi Jing walked beside his mother. "Feifei, I got something good for you. Mom, give me Sister Jing Chu’s money later. We spent two hundred bucks of hers."
"Alright, I’ll give it to you later, but you should return it to your sister."
Lv Beiguang came out of the house and took the little girl from Jiang Xinyu’s arms. She was unwilling, but Lv Beiguang took her anyway.
Jiang Xinyu looked at the four tables in the main room and smiled, "Master Shang still has such good taste."
Zhao Xiaoqiang and Jianbin were unpacking luggage, with only two sets of quilts here, considering the large group of people staying just one night, they didn’t each bring a quilt, but they still brought four sets.
At this point, Du Fengying and the others were already cooking, leaving some seafood for Jiang Xinyu to make.
A braised bighead carp, a bowl of braised pork chunks, a bowl of pork strips, two seafood dishes prepared by Jiang Xinyu, along with canned red fruit, a platter of marinated offal, sauerkraut lung slices, cabbage tofu, cabbage bean slices. Two roast chickens to be eaten at lunch tomorrow.
Jing Chu sat on the kang, watching Tingting and Shi Xian. Jiang Xinyu went out to cook, directly preparing a large bowl of seafood hotpot, stir-frying shrimps with garlic sprouts and carrots.
The side dishes were set on the table, and Li Yunqiao’s family also came over.
The house was even livelier. Li Xue and Jing Chu sat on the kang, looking after the two children.
Lu Fengzhen was especially fond of the clever Shi Xian, so she also sat on the kang to play with the two.
Wei Kaiyun introduced Yang Zhongyi to Li Yunqiao.
The men then sat at the table chatting.
Zheng Lihong went to the kitchen to help, but Jiang Xinyu smiled and declined.
"Quickly! No need for you, I’ve prepared everything."
The setup was for two tables again, still divided by gender.
Du Fengying and Zhang Qiu’e started bringing out dishes, canned goods, and cold dishes could come out first.
Afterward, they helped Jiang Xinyu in the kitchen, and in half an hour, all the dishes were ready for the table.
Yang Zhongyi smacked his lips; the Wei family’s food was really good. Although they were hosting Guodong’s father-in-law for dinner, it was evident that they generally lived well.
Especially this big bowl of spicy seafood; it looked indulgent.
Yang Zhongyi had seen the world and eaten fine things, but looking at this table of dishes, he still felt he hadn’t seen enough.
The men drank; today, Wei Kaiyun also poured himself a bit of alcohol, "This is all I’m having. If it weren’t for today being a happy occasion, I wouldn’t drink a single sip."
No one tried to persuade him further. Drinking was his choice.
The women were also quite lively; Jiang Xinyu prepared milk tea, which she had tried out at home last night. It was sweet and delicious.
"Teacher Jiang, what is this? It smells so fragrant."
"I made milk tea using black tea, milk powder, and sugar. I find it pretty good; everyone should try it."
As Jiang Xinyu spoke, she was also holding her younger son. The boy was growing impatient yet couldn’t eat any, though he was too gluttonous, almost uncontrollable.
"Teacher Jiang is really skillful, able to make this too."
Zheng Lihong took a sip and found it very tasty; she had never had something so delicious before.
"Don’t be shy; I used less chili in the seafood. By the way, have you ever eaten shrimp skins?"
Lu Fengzhen and Zheng Lihong nodded, not knowing.
"After eating, did you feel uncomfortable at all?"
The two shook their heads again, "No discomfort, a few days ago we made salty appetizer with shrimp skins, scallions, and soy sauce, we were fine eating that."
"That’s good, I’d be worried if you were allergic to seafood. Try but not too much; pregnant and breastfeeding women shouldn’t eat too much, but shrimp is okay."
Everyone’s chopsticks kept moving; their table had one less fish than the men’s. But also an additional bottle of hawthorn can.
Jiang Xinyu felt Lu Fengzhen might like sweet and sour, and having brought over more than ten bottles, using four tomorrow, the remainder would be given to Lu Fengzhen. That counts as a pretty decent gift, presentable too.
