Chapter 13: First Kiss
Vicky hesitated for a moment before saying, "I was just thinking—what are we going to do now? Where are we going to live? What's going to become of us?"
I nodded and sat facing her as I said, "As I said that day, everything's going to be alright. You don't need to worry about anything."
Vicky looked at me, her expression unreadable, but I could see a hint of disbelief and anger in her eyes.
"How can I not worry? I don't have any assets, and my savings are pitifully low—not even enough to last us for a day. I know I won't be able to find a well-paying job no matter how hard I try, especially because there are suddenly so many jobless people."
"I can't let Felicity starve or deprive her of the things she deserves. However, I can't see myself being able to do anything for her. What I see is a bleak future. So tell me, Ryan, how can I not worry?"
Her voice became louder as she poured her worries out, and her eyes became moist.
I silently listened to her and watched as she heaved deep breaths to calm her bursting emotions. After a few moments, she looked at me and said, "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have lost control like that. It's just that—"
"No need to apologize, Vicky. I completely understand what you're feeling," I didn't let her finish.
"If I wasn't sure I could earn enough money to give my family a good life, I would be worrying just like you."
"Hm?" Vicky furrowed her brows slightly when she heard me and hesitantly asked, "You have a way to earn money?"
"I do," I nodded.
