Chapter 643: 99. Mother and Daughter (Two in One)_3
“Let’s head back to the hotel first; it’s just too cold here.”
Valentina nodded, barely able to endure the chill of the Northern Realm’s night. So Fisher used his Fluid Sword to support three individuals… no, three Slime Species pushing Valentina back the way they came.
Feeling the steady pace of Fisher behind her, Valentina looked down at the wheelchair moving at a leisurely speed and suddenly asked,
“You… just now, you jumped so high. That shouldn’t be Magic, and it doesn’t seem like something a Human could do. How did you manage it?”
Fisher heard her question but wasn’t inclined to tell the truth, mainly because explaining would be somewhat troublesome. And he had some aversion to outright admitting he was a Mixed Blood of some demi-human species. People had always speculated, but he had never confirmed it. So he said to Valentina,
“Everyone has their secrets, Miss Valentina, and I’m no exception.”
“…Oh.”
Valentina, upon hearing his evasive answer, secretly puffed her cheeks and, where Fisher couldn’t see, rubbed a ring on her hand, replying in this manner. Clearly, she felt a bit displeased by his response, and her mind was now slightly resistant to the images she had seen in the Ice.
But after all, Fisher’s pace remained unchanged behind her, and with his continual support at her back, these minor thoughts and displeasures quickly dissipated into thin air.
…
…
“So, the young lady was having a private meeting with Fisher late at night and suddenly got attacked by these three Slimes?”
The hotel’s lobby was bright with light, and numerous security personnel of the Turand Family were standing behind. The leader, a woman named Heidlin dressed in a black coat, covered her forehead with a pained expression, her face looking less than pleasant.
She was originally coming to assist Valentina with resting, but when she didn’t find anyone in the room, she alerted other staff members and discovered that even Fisher was missing. After searching for a long while, they realized that these two had somehow brought back three strange individuals from outside.
Valentina felt embarrassed by Heidlin’s mention of a “private meeting”. She shook her head, wanting to explain, but upon seeing the stern look on Heidlin’s face, she thought better of it. It was Fisher who spoke for her,
“These three Slimes wanted to steal the Ice. We just happened to be in the room.”
“So, what were you and the young lady doing there at that time? Why did you go to the room where the Ice is stored?”
Fisher was about to respond when Valentina turned and gave him a look that clearly meant he couldn’t disclose her ability to receive prophecies from the Ice to the family. So, with a neutral face, he made up a lie,
“We were chatting there.”
“In the middle of the night, a lone man and woman, you’re telling me you were chatting in a secluded room?”
Heidlin raised an eyebrow, and Valentina covered her face with her hands, too embarrassed to utter another word. How did it become that the more Fisher explained, the darker and stranger the situation sounded?!
“The current issue isn’t this. What’s important is how to handle these three Slime Species. They attempted to steal the Ice, and it’s unknown if they’re following someone else’s instructions or what. Moreover, haven’t you always been searching for the Slime Species? This time they practically delivered themselves to our doorstep; they might know clues about the Seal.”
Fisher saw Heidlin’s black hair nearly standing on end from anger, showing signs of turning into a fearsome Demon. He hurried to interject, steering the conversation back on track. Valentina, seeing Heidlin’s casting cut off, quickly joined Fisher in sync,
“Right, the search for the Slime Imprint is second only in difficulty to the Troll Species Seal. I’ve heard the Slime Species have a special way of contacting their kin, so though they have been scattered these years, they’ve somehow formed a united front… Through these three, we should be able to get the Slime Imprint soon.”
Heidlin, with narrowed eyes, looked at Fisher, who stood there seriously, and at Valentina, the young lady of her own household, sitting in her wheelchair. Their coordinated act made Heidlin’s upcoming scolding halt in her throat. She could only sigh and, with a pointed finger, said fiercely to the two,
“Young lady, you can’t go out alone like this at night anymore, especially with a male… It’s not to restrict your freedom, but what would I tell the family if something happened to you? I won’t report this incident to the family, but you must reflect on it for my sake if nothing else!”
“I understand, Heidlin.”
Valentina turned back and winked at Fisher, her fingers playing lightly with her ring, a look of mischief on her face. Yet, turning to see Fisher looking down at her, she felt her cheeks redden and turned away, whispering to Fisher,
“Okay, Fisher, let those three go. Let me understand the situation.”
“Yes,”
The moment Fisher released the three Slimes, the elderly one named Kexie Ning hadn’t said anything, but the two red and blue Slimes already cozied up to Fisher quite pleasingly,
“Noble sir~ I am innocent, please see the truth. This theft had nothing to do with us; it was all her plan!”
