Chapter 630: 95. Big Potpourri_2
“There, there’s a smell of high value…”
The three figures in black robes all lifted their heads as the Turand family’s carriage just passed by and only when the carriage had gradually moved far away, did the lead black-robed figure suddenly let out a female voice.
“Mother, I’m so hungry, I want to eat something delicious.”
Behind her, one of the black-robed figures suddenly spoke up timidly, hugging the musical instrument on their body even tighter, but this pitiful statement garnered no sympathy from the person called “Mother” in the lead. She simply glanced at the train station which had started to discharge passengers, then suddenly turned her head to scold,
“Then hurry up and work harder, or else we’ll all end up drinking the northwestern wind today. Pull out all your tricks!”
The two figures behind her quickly nodded, lifting the strange musical instruments in their hands. On closer inspection, the instruments looked like a flute and an organ combined, but as they put the instruments into their mouths simultaneously, a passionate and fervent melody abruptly rang out.
It was the purest, most fervent, and cheeriest of tunes, and though the melody was rousing, it seemed to oscillate in a trance with three repeatedly sung vocal phrases,
“Kexie Ning! Kexie Ning! Kexie Ning! Kexie Ning!”
And with the emergence of that voice, the lead black-robed figure began to sing loudly,
“Passing traveler! Ice sky and snow land, please pause a moment to listen to an old woman sing, to let an old woman guess, from whence you hail, let me present to you a song from your homeland, let me warm the chill spawned from your travels!”
In the train station, several men dressed in heavy coats and gentlemen’s hats, with stern expressions, each holding a suitcase, walked out of the station. The man in the lead, with golden hair and a hint of shimmering gold in his eyes, examined the surroundings while speaking softly in Nali language,
“Your Majesty, we have arrived in Mia. According to the intel from Patulshen Island, Fisher Benavides has landed in the Northern Realm, and has complicated entanglements with the Turand Family. Yes, Nebalon Kingdom’s special agents have seen him landing at the port… Once we are settled, we will immediately pursue him. We are aware of the danger he poses, but we have brought a relic capable of capturing him alive, so please be at ease, Your Majesty…”
The black-robed figure holding the instrument and singing swayed slightly, seemingly catching a scent and quickly confirming the identities of the group from Nali, and thus immediately changed tune and sang a Nali folk song in the Nali language,
“Ah, the fishy stench of the sea, the temperamental ocean and boundless gold… For the great Captain, and for a place in history, these matter naught. Please tell my father, my mother, please tell my brothers, my sisters, and wife, that I set sail tonight! I set sail tonight!”
As this emotive song ended, the several stern-faced Nali people suddenly turned to glare at those performers who disturbed their conversation with His Majesty, causing the black-robed figure about to ask for money to pause, fearing they would draw their guns to shoot.
Fortunately, however, it seemed the Nali people had other matters to attend to, as they spat in the direction of the singing figures and left the scene with a cold snort.
The leading black-robed figure quickly dodged backwards to avoid the saliva attack, which made her black robe tremble a little, revealing the frail, sagging-skinned old body wrapped inside. She glared fiercely at the men in coats, who were moving farther away, and then cursed under her breath,
“Hmph, were it not for that ungrateful wretch! The white-eyed wolf! He stole all my value, how could I, Kexie Ning, fall to such a state… Bah! These Humans, they really know how to look down on one! Damn Nali regulations, I am going to report to Mia’s police, you bunch of spies!”
As “Kexie Ning” was muttering curses, the two black-robed figures behind her gently removed their cloaks, revealing two different, yet youthful female faces. They pursed their lips and tugged on their mother’s black robe to whisper a reminder,
“Mother, we just went to prison last month for theft and got seven years. It was hard enough to escape, and performing here is already dangerous. If we report them to the police, they will surely catch us first…”
This caused the once-bold Kexie Ning to falter in her vigor slightly, her face growing even more sour as she turned back to her daughters and scolded,
“…If I had the money to convert into value, I would have already traveled elsewhere, but it’s all because of you two money-losers! You can’t even handle something as simple as thievery properly, what’s the use of keeping you!?”
The two girls shrank back at the scolding, eventually collapsing limply against the wall behind them. Kexie Ning, relentless, continued to berate them as if letting out long-suppressed grievances. She swayed slightly as she stood up and pointed at the two daughters shivering in front of the wall, shouting,
“Coria, Koni, you two useless eaters, why don’t you run away with that white-eyed wolf Colin who stole everything from me? You beasts, I…”
