Liu An was lazy, and so was his father, Liu Dato. Not only did they manage their farmland poorly, they also earned little money outside.

After Liu Dato’s wife died, he never remarried, partly because of their poor character, which deterred people from marrying into their family.

Secondly, Liu An disapproved, as there was only a little money in the family. If his father remarried, it would undoubtedly leave him penniless when the time came.

On the road, Liu An did nothing to Su Xiaotao. As soon as they arrived home, however, he threw her on the bed and started beating her. Su Xiaotao cried silently under the bed, not daring to make a sound. If she did cry out, Liu An would have only become more ruthless.

Furthermore, Liu An even threatened her that if she resisted, he would find people to cause trouble for Zhiyuan.

Zhiyuan was the treasure of her parents’ hearts. If her parents knew that it was because of her that Zhiyuan suffered, they would certainly not trouble Liu An but blame themselves instead.

Seeing that Su Xiaotao was subdued and silent, Liu An called out to Liu Dato, "Dad."

Liu Dato had just returned from the fields and glanced at Liu An, who had just come back from Lihua Village. His face, covered in wrinkles, brightened, "Why are you back so soon? Weren’t you supposed to return after dinner?"

Every day they could save on eating at home by dining at her parents’ place.
