The Double

This night, after Jiang Li returned to the Jiang Residence, she coincidentally made it back just before dawn. Tonger and Bai Xue had been waiting for her for a long time, and seeing her return this late for the first time, they were restless with concern until Jiang Li safely returned home, allowing them to finally breathe a sigh of relief. They then urged Jiang Li to go to bed and rest, to have a good sleep.

This sleep lasted until the sun was high in the sky the next day, and when Jiang Li woke up, she felt refreshed and clear-headed. Tonger and Bai Xue were surprised to find that the worries from before had seemingly disappeared from her smile, making it appear especially light and radiant, causing anyone who saw it to smile involuntarily.

Tonger still remembered what Jiang Li had said the night before, so when Jiang Li started having her meal after freshening up, she asked, "Miss, when will we leave Yanjing City?"

When Jiang Li visited the Duke Residence the previous night, she had mentioned that she was going to bid farewell to Jih Heng, meaning they would be leaving Yanjing City and ought to plan everything ahead of time. The victory banquet would be held soon, and as long as the Emperor granted Jiang Li and Yin Zhili permission to marry, then fleeing afterwards would implicate the Jiang Family and involve bearing the charge of defying an imperial edict. Leaving in advance would mean not having to drag others down with her.

"Not leaving anymore," Jiang Li said.

Bai Xue and Tonger looked at each other, and Bai Xue quickly guessed that perhaps Jih Heng had changed Jiang Li’s mind. Carefully, Bai Xue asked, "Does the Duke have a way?"

The image of him kissing her last night suddenly flashed through Jiang Li’s mind, along with his words, "Ah Li, are you willing to marry me?" Jiang Li’s face flushed with heat instantly, and she nodded nonchalantly, saying, "So there’s no need to leave."
