The Double

Jiang Li walked in.

Ji Shuran stared at her blankly. For the past two days, apart from the abusive old woman, she hadn’t seen a single person. There was no need to mention Jiang Yuanbai and Madam Jiang the Elder, nor could she see Jiang Youyao and Jiang Bingji. As for her personal maidservants, they were probably all locked up. Ji Shuran couldn’t know what was happening outside; alone, she thought a lot about her own way out and also about Jiang Li’s situation.

The sight of Jiang Li at that time was clearly one of ghost possession. Although she was now in such a plight, Ji Shuran still couldn’t help thinking that it would be good if Jiang Li remained possessed or even better if those ghosts killed her. Now that Jiang Li had appeared, for an instant, Ji Shuran thought that the Jiang Li she saw was no longer among the living.

But then she observed Jiang Li softly instructing the maidservant by her side and yet again, reluctantly accepted the fact that Jiang Li was not dead. On the contrary, judging from her current appearance, she seemed unaffected by anything.

Jiang Li entered the room alone, with the maidservants waiting outside, and the door inside was shut. Jiang Li did not light any lamps, so apart from the candlelight, there was only the pale, tranquil light emanating from the white lantern in her hand.

Ji Shuran felt even colder, but a cold smile appeared on her face, "What are you doing here?"

"I came to see you," Jiang Li sat down on the chair in front of the table, casually placing the lantern on the ground. She looked at Ji Shuran with her warm, soft eyes exuding tranquility, but what she said did not allow Ji Shuran any composure. She said, "After all, you have spent so many years in the Jiang Residence; before you leave, I should come to see you."

"Leave?" Ji Shuran furrowed her brow, "What leave?"

Jiang Li quietly watched her and after a while, said, "After doing so much, Madam surely doesn’t think she can leave without any consequences, does she?"
