Chapter 439: Inogashira Asami, The Clairvoyant
Most of the members of the Yuka Faction were somewhat unusual compared with the members of other factions, mainly because their abilities were not primarily focused on direct attacks or overwhelming offensive power. A surprisingly large portion of the faction consisted of people with support-oriented abilities, which meant that their strength came from how intelligently and effectively they used those powers rather than simply blasting their enemies with destructive abilities.
Sano Yuka herself did not possess an ability that could be considered overwhelmingly powerful when compared with some of the more absurd powers in existence. Her ability to hypnotize people was still extremely dangerous when used properly, however, and that was more than enough to make her a serious threat when the circumstances favored her.
Yuka had always believed that possessing a powerful ability did not automatically make someone strong, just as having an ability that appeared weak on the surface did not automatically make someone useless. The real difference came from the person using the ability, because even an ordinary-looking power could become terrifying when placed in the hands of someone clever enough to understand its potential.
A person could possess an incredibly destructive ability and still lose simply because they did not know how to use it properly. Meanwhile, someone with an ability that appeared almost useless at first glance could become a nightmare if they understood all of its possibilities and knew exactly when to use them.
That was one of the principles Yuka valued most within her faction.
Inogashira Asami was another good example of this philosophy because her ability was not directly focused on attacking anyone.
Her power was Clairvoyance.
Asami possessed the ability to see things from incredibly far away, allowing her to observe places that would normally be completely inaccessible to ordinary people. Her ability became even more useful because the area controlled by the Yuka Faction was essentially within her range of observation.
Because of that, Asami could see a considerable amount of what happened throughout their territory.
She could observe suspicious movements, notice people entering restricted areas, and potentially identify threats before they became serious problems. It was an incredibly useful ability for someone belonging to a faction that relied heavily on information and support.
Unfortunately, that particular advantage also meant that Asami occasionally ended up seeing things she probably would have preferred not to see.
Which brought her to the current situation.

Before all of this happened, though, Asami had been spending her time in the hall where Yuka was calmly drinking her tea, looking as composed as she usually did despite the rather ridiculous situation that had recently unfolded around Kouhei and his decision to pursue the position of Demon Lord.
"I can’t believe that Kouhei-sama would actually say something like that," Yuka said while taking another quiet sip of her tea. "I have to admit, though, I am... amused."
"Amused?" Asami repeated, looking at Yuka with genuine surprise.
Hearing Yuka describe the situation as amusing was honestly one of the last reactions Asami had expected from her. She had assumed that Yuka would be irritated, perhaps even genuinely angry, after hearing the statement Kouhei had made. Considering how disrespectful his words had sounded toward someone Asami held in such high regard, she had personally expected Yuka to react much more harshly.
Asami had not exactly intended to listen in on the conversation in the first place, either, but her clairvoyance made things like that rather difficult to avoid when she happened to be nearby. Her ability allowed her to perceive things from a distance in a way that ordinary people could never manage, and because of that, conversations that should have remained private could sometimes reach her attention without her deliberately trying to hear them.
That particular ability was one of the reasons Asami was so useful to Yuka. Her clairvoyance was exceptionally rare, and as far as Asami knew, there was hardly anyone else capable of using it in quite the same way. Having someone who could observe distant events without physically being there gave Yuka an advantage that was difficult to replace, especially when information could be gathered without putting anyone at unnecessary risk.
"Why are you looking so surprised?" Yuka asked, raising an eyebrow as she looked toward Asami with an amused expression. "Are you surprised that I find it amusing rather than annoying?"
"Well, yes," Asami admitted, still looking somewhat confused by the answer.
"It’s only natural," Yuka said, taking another sip of her tea before continuing in a calm voice. "A man like him, who seems to have no idea how to do even the simplest things properly, stumbling around while trying to figure himself out, suddenly wants to become a Demon Lord simply because he wants to protect the people he loves. It is amusing in a certain sense. Amusing and naive, perhaps, but amusing nonetheless."
Asami listened carefully to every word, although she still could not completely figure out what Yuka was actually feeling underneath her calm expression. There seemed to be something else mixed into her voice, perhaps a little irritation hidden beneath the amusement, but Asami could not confidently determine whether that was actually the case or whether she was simply overthinking the situation.
For all she knew, Yuka might genuinely have been in an unusually good mood.
That possibility honestly made things even more confusing.
"What do you think about him, Asami?" Yuka suddenly asked, shifting the subject toward her.
"I have absolutely no respect for him whatsoever," Asami answered almost immediately.
Yuka blinked once before a small smile appeared on her face.
"You certainly answered that quickly," she said, sounding entertained by how little hesitation Asami had shown. "May I ask what brought you to that conclusion?"
Although Yuka already had a fairly good idea about the reason, she still wanted to hear Asami explain it herself. Watching Asami become genuinely worked up over something was occasionally entertaining, especially because her loyalty toward Yuka was so excessive that it could become almost comical under the right circumstances.
"It’s because it feels like he has no respect for you, Yuka-sama," Asami explained.
For Asami, Yuka was not simply someone she respected. Her loyalty toward Yuka was practically absolute, reaching a level that could sometimes border on the ridiculous. Asami trusted her judgment, valued her opinions, and considered Yuka’s words important enough that she would often follow them without questioning them. Because of that, anyone who openly disrespected Yuka immediately placed themselves on Asami’s bad side.
People who could not even show Yuka the most basic amount of respect were, in Asami’s mind, hardly worthy of receiving any respect from her either.
"He’s so rude," Asami continued, her expression becoming increasingly irritated as she thought about Kouhei. "If Yuka-sama tells him to give up on his candidacy to become a Demon Lord, then he should simply have done so without complaining about it. His reasoning is weak, and honestly, a lot of what he said doesn’t make much sense to me whatsoever. I don’t think I like him even a little bit."
The sheer amount of irritation in her voice made it sound as though Kouhei had personally committed some unforgivable offense against her.
Yuka could not help but find the reaction amusing.
"Really?" she asked, her lips curling slightly upward.
She knew perfectly well how loyal Asami was, and this reaction was exactly the sort of thing she would expect from her. Asami’s devotion could occasionally reach absurd levels, and although Yuka did not necessarily encourage all of it, she could not deny that it was entertaining to watch.
"Well, I was actually planning to have you look through what he is doing right now," Yuka continued. "I would like to know what kind of things he has been thinking about, as well as what sort of conversations he has been having with the other members of his faction. I am slightly curious about what he does when he isn’t constantly tense or arguing with someone."
Asami considered the request for a moment before giving a small nod.
"Well, I suppose I could do that," she said. "If that is your wish, Yuka-sama, then I will take a look."
Her answer came with the kind of certainty that made it obvious she would have agreed regardless of how unreasonable the request might have sounded.
Asami closed her eyes and focused her thoughts before activating her clairvoyance. Her awareness gradually shifted away from the hall and toward the location where Kouhei was currently staying, allowing her to perceive what was happening from a distance.
At first, her vision was strangely unclear.
"Huh?" Asami thought, immediately becoming confused. "W-What is this?"
Her vision appeared foggy, although fog was not quite the right word for it. Something seemed to be obscuring her sight, making it difficult to determine exactly what she was looking at. She tried adjusting her focus, concentrating more carefully on the image before her until the obstruction gradually became less severe.
Then she finally managed to see what Kouhei was looking at.
"Wawawawawawa!"
Asami immediately shut down her clairvoyance, her face turning bright red almost instantly.
Yuka looked toward her with an expression of mild curiosity.
"What’s wrong?" she asked.
"N-Nothing," Asami replied far too quickly.
The answer was obviously suspicious, but Yuka did not immediately press the issue. Asami, meanwhile, sat there trying to regain her composure while desperately pretending that she had not just witnessed something she had absolutely not been prepared to see.
