The base advised Maya to turn off the active radar and positioning system and maintain a low altitude flight around one hundred meters unless an aircraft carrier dispatches an early-warning aircraft, which won’t detect the helicopter in flight.
Experts from Veteran Base explained what each instrument meant, including how to use the fire control radar. The challenge was that the armed helicopter used kerosene, which is difficult to obtain commercially. According to Veteran Base, there’s a refinery about 20 kilometers southeast of Day After Tomorrow City; it was unclear if they had aviation fuel, but it could be worth checking out.
Maya focused on learning how to taxi the helicopter on the ground, to avoid any accidents after learning everything else.
After dinner, Lin Meng and Lin Wu walked along the railway tracks to the maintenance station to get a handcart, while Xiao Yi and a perplexed Maya stayed behind. While waiting, Maya mostly spent her time on the helicopter, studying it until the satellite phone with 90% battery was dead.
Elsewhere, the work at Double Forest was leisurely; the duo treated it like a picnic, chatting, walking and playing. During this, they gave Xiao Yi an overall evaluation, as they felt a certain responsibility for bringing her back. Originally, assessing was Maya’s job, but since she was distracted, they took it upon themselves to evaluate. If Xiao Yi was deemed unsuitable, an ’accident’ might occur on the trip back to avoid complications at the base that could make Xiao Wen and Xiao Wu uncomfortable.
