Chapter 790 - 356 Retirement
After exiting instance 334, Shadow Squad returned to instance 771. Maya, who was usually not one for pleasantries, surprisingly expressed gratitude to Snow Egg for holding down the fort and then began to pry up the floorboards to install mines. After setting up 20 mines indoors, Maya instructed, "Be sure to remember their locations; don’t step on them."
Laying mines was not complicated. First, they lifted the carpet and pried up the ceramic tiles. Then they chiseled into the cement with the tools they had brought and placed the mines inside. Afterward, they carefully relaid the intact or broken ceramic tiles and covered them back with the carpet before unscrewing several light bulbs in the corridor.
Some hotel corridors, especially those of guest rooms, used very thick fire-resistant carpets. These carpets were comfortable to walk on and did not betray the presence of hard objects beneath them. They were detachable and relatively easy to maintain.
However, they did not know that these mines were completely useless.
The next step was to head to the 17th floor to refresh their weapons and ammunition. After a night’s wait, the mercenaries on the 17th floor had respawned normally. Thanks to their increasingly proficient shield usage, Shadow Squad successfully harvested over a dozen assault rifles. Giving time for the 17th floor to respawn, Shadow Squad began a systematic, floor-by-floor sweep.
Having already saved 49 NPCs, the surplus NPCs had to be killed off.
The day had not been particularly smooth. Maya, Snow Egg, Little Knife, and Shana each had to bail by jumping out of the building due to injuries, whereas Lin Wu, the point man, didn’t even scratch his skin.
Feeling it was unfair to have Snow Egg guard the base alone for hours every day, Shana volunteered to take over this duty. Shana returned to the base early and was supposed to take over around eleven at night, but the alarm went off at ten.
