Chapter 550 - 273: Hunting
After showering and mooching a meal from the Shadow Group hurriedly evacuated with a brightness value of 20 still remaining because no one wanted to deal with Night Demons. The Apocalypse People, however, decided to eat before showering even though it was scorchingly hot. The sea breezes and river winds clashed, bringing unbearably dry and hot air.
Fortunately, Peanut returned to the base safely, probably because Night Demons couldn’t be bothered to pick on a newcomer. Upon his return, he had only one word for it: "Hot."
During those 24 hours, Peanut stayed in a small villa, enjoying the air conditioning, feasting on roast beef, watching 3D TV, and playing virtual reality games—an endlessly delightful life. Peanut then shared his thoughts, "It’s so hot, I might as well die." Of course, he was joking; dying would mean losing points, and one more death might mean the loss of his TV. Another death after that, and he might even lose the villa.
Currently, no one knew how Dawn calculated points. Someone like Lin Wu, who considered himself to have a high score, had never died. Clever as Maya was, she couldn’t gather complete data either. However, judging from Peanut’s description, his points weren’t low.
The heat made everyone wilt. By 11 p.m., it had cooled down slightly, and everyone went back to their dorms to rest. Lin Wu didn’t know how long he had been asleep when he woke up drenched in sweat. Struggling out of bed, he went outside for some cool air and climbed atop the shipping container, where he lay motionless.
Soon enough, everyone else came up to sprawl out, clearly overwhelmed by the heat. Cotton somehow found a piece of cardboard and made himself a makeshift fan. But it wasn’t long before they all had to return to their dorms. Despite the Apocalypse People’s attention to cleanliness, the lack of NPC maintenance meant that mosquitos were inevitable, especially near the river.
Between dying from bites or the heat, everyone chose the heat. Lin Wu dozed off for a while, half out of his dorm to enjoy the natural breeze, then gave Wai an order. Wai hopped around Lin Wu’s head, bringing some wind on one side while shooing away mosquitos on the other.
After a restless night, everyone finally fell into a solid sleep around 4:30 a.m. The next morning at 9 a.m., they dragged their tired bodies out of bed, once again woken by the heat.
Seeing everyone in such a state, Maya said, "Everyone, go rest on the first floor."
