Chapter 449 - 233: Goodbye A1_2
Then why didn’t they let Wai out earlier? In Lin Wu’s view, ten Nightmares weren’t even comparable to one Wai. Knowing there was an assassin, yet sending out Wai, was irresponsible towards Wai. Assuming this was a real scenario, unable to respawn, would Lin Wu risk using Wai?
Of course not. He wouldn’t just stop Wai from taking risks; even Lin Wu himself wouldn’t come. Knowing there was an assassin, knowing there was dangerous armed presence behind the door, yet still running here seeking death, who could you blame?
After exiting the corridor, Lin Ma knew they were right. A passageway that used to have only a few lamps was now incredibly bright, with a small speaker disguised as a rock playing soft music. Even so, Lin Wu still took Wai with him to scout the surroundings thoroughly and even roasted a koi carp. Only after wasting 20 minutes did Maya start to unlock the Sudoku locks.
As the door opened, the two of them moved aside, but there wasn’t the expected hail of gunfire. What they saw was a laboratory, with fully armed guards at the entrance, and staff members bustling about inside. The guards, initially on alert, relaxed their hostility immediately after scanning and confirming they were human, and warmly led both Lin Wu and Maya to the chief engineer’s office.
This was the reward of good karma!
The chief engineer received them warmly, offered them coffee and hot cocoa, and then introduced the A1 laboratory. The A1 lab was more like an assembly line factory, its main function being the refinement of serum.
The backdrop of the story was quite a journey. Seru had successfully cultivated the Blood Heart on level -4 of the underground facility, at the corner of the hallway where the staircase led down to the right, making it possible for humans to produce the serum in bulk. Originally, the Blood Heart was a transgenic synthesis of both animal and plant, with roots like vines and also possessing animal-like characteristics such as a heart and blood.
The guards of the A1 lab used various weapons and methods to capture zombies and fed them to the Blood Heart as food. After consuming the zombies, the Blood Heart would begin to grow. According to the scientists’ schedules, guards used soporific gases to put the Blood Heart to sleep and then began extracting its blood. Finally, the blood was transported to the A1 lab to be refined into serum.
Having found a way to manufacture the serum in bulk, Fortress Company converted Tomorrow Building into a temporary military base and expanded the laboratory. The A1 lab was not only the floor Lin Wu and his team had seen, but it included several levels above, containing zombie breeding grounds, training fields, dormitories, living quarters, and more.
As time passed, the Blood Heart’s resistance to the drugs grew stronger and Fortress Company had to continually change the soporific gas. After successfully operating for several months and refining thirty thousand doses of serum, Fortress Company encountered a problem: the soporific technology humans had was no longer able to put the Blood Heart to sleep.
