"Shana assigned Lin Wu to Class A, Nightmare to Class B, and herself to Class C. Shana rested first; she made a pot of black tea for everyone, read for a while, then went to sleep. During this time, Lin Wu and Nightmare repelled zombie attacks five times. They came on average every seven minutes. However, the zombies didn’t follow the average pattern; sometimes there were continuous assaults, other times there would be a pause of over ten minutes. This kept the defenders on alert at all times."

"The game mode was quite brutal for the players, but since everyone faced the same challenges, no one complained. Of course, this excluded the loners. After the game rules were announced, the loners already knew they were doomed. Those lucky enough to have two neighboring bases combine into one were better off, though a player could only bring one food pack of four food units, and upon joining another’s base, they would consume an additional three food units from it."

"Even with two people, it would be tough to last seven days if their weapons weren’t up to par. Other injuries were manageable, thanks to the medical beds, but the beds could no longer heal infections. Survival depended on four things: equipment, skills, vigilance, and serum injections."

"From Lin Wu’s perspective, the system was quite humane. When zombies entered the base, they stumbled and were unsteady, giving players a few seconds to react. However, Nightmare, defending the other passage, didn’t think so because the zombies she faced were ready for action. She had a defensive advantage with a 14-meter distance, while Lin Wu only had 7 meters."

"Why not hunker down at the entrance of both passages? Because of the cold; players couldn’t stray too far from the campfire or for too long."

"You can always learn something from others, and Lin Wu learned quite a bit from Nightmare. Nightmare held her gun in a cool and practical way. The gun hung in front of her chest, with her right hand always on the gun body; when a zombie appeared, her right hand tightened slightly, and her left hand supported the barrel, allowing her to aim and shoot immediately."

"After firing, Nightmare would remove her left hand, the gun barrel dipping slightly, and her eyes would leave the scope to observe her surroundings. When a new zombie appeared, she could fire quickly again. Not only was it fast, but also accurate."

"There were many details in this set of actions. Nightmare’s right hand placement on the gun body was meticulous, with one finger able to flip the safety, readying the gun for rapid fire as soon as she gripped it. Next, her left hand aided in lifting the gun as she bent her head and raised her right hand. The three actions, performed simultaneously, allowed her to quickly prepare through the scope and then shoot."

"When Lin Wu asked why, Nightmare replied, ’Sometimes 0.1 seconds is the line between life and death.’ She spoke of facing gunmen, not zombies."

"Lin Wu continued asking, ’How could someone as strong as you be killed by Blood Meng?’"
