Kingdom of Corrosion

Chapter 167 - 123 M16_2

"Go."

Lin Wu shouted, and upon hearing Lin Wu’s voice through the earpiece, Maya made her move. Lin Wu covered Maya while she switched her AK-41 for a pistol, firing as she ran. Reaching Frenzy’s side, she crouched down, pistol in her left hand, and began Corpse Looting with her right hand, "Frenzy looted." After her report, she switched back to her AK-41, firing and retreating. Lin Wu protected her back, and if he couldn’t cover her, he would warn her through the walkie-talkie.

Shana, watching from above, remarked after a while, "Seems like there aren’t enough zombies to kill." Lin Wu was taking down one about every second, while Maya maintained a steady pace of two per second. Initially, some zombies managed to get within two meters of Maya, but now none could get closer than five meters without dying. Maya and Lin Wu even began to competitively "kill-steal" from each other.

Atop the watchtower, Lin Wu’s eyes saw only zombie heads, his gaze locked onto their movement. He’d cycle the bolt, aim, and pull the trigger in one fluid motion. Caught up in the thrill, he accidentally shot the dangling Screamer they had been farming, which left Lin Wu with lots of regrets. Just then, he heard shouts from the Shadow Base, a hundred meters away, "Titan."

Lin Wu spotted the Titan emerging from the birch forest, saying, "Big catch incoming."

Maya exclaimed, "Cover me," and turned to run. She dashed to the base of the guard post, grabbed the dangling rope, and climbed up to the rooftop on the second floor.

Maya crouched at the edge of the rooftop, taking aim at the Titan’s head and beginning to fire in bursts. Firing from solid ground was completely different from shooting from the back of a pickup truck; Maya’s shots almost all hit the Titan’s head. The Titan staggered not even ten meters into the safe zone. Then it stumbled a second time, and then a third.

What confounded Bai Ban was that the Titan hadn’t yet died when both of them descended to the first floor and charged at the Titan. Lin Wu even switched to a Raider rifle.

One was firing bursts to headshot, the other was spraying bullets crazily at the Titan. The Raider’s rate of fire of 600 bullets per minute made it certain for the Titan to fall. Lin Wu pounced on the Titan’s body, while Maya stood beside him, spinning in place and gunning down any zombie that approached, buying time for Lin Wu to loot.

Soon, Lin Wu pulled a rifle resembling the AK-41 from the Titan’s body, "An M16." With a reflex red dot sight and four times magnification, it felt great. The bullets would follow wherever the red dot was aimed.

Seeing Lin Wu’s rifle emitting a red beam and hitting targets precisely, Maya immediately went forward to trade weapons. Siege time was the best moment to test out a new gun. After a minute of handling the M16, Maya noticed its recoil was slightly lower, and its accuracy was slightly higher compared to the M4, which had a shorter barrel, was lighter, and had a shorter range.

Because the red dot sight was very user-friendly for newcomers, Maya swapped the M16 back to Lin Wu, and the two killed their way back to the base, taking turns climbing the rope back to the rooftop. After exchanging thoughts on firearms, they both agreed that the M16 was a notch above the Silencer, but lamented that the M16 was unlikely to see much use due to the cost of its ammunition. Since the M16 used the same 5.56 bullets as the M4, Maya already had plans for the M16’s ammo.
