Chapter 136 - 109: The Deal
Facing Lin Wu’s inquiry, Little White Rabbit answered, "Only Fortress agents have clues to the secret laboratory. Usually, only Fortress agents can discover the secret location for the first time. If you are Fortress agents, I will issue Task A6. If you are not, you will get a direct reward."
Lin Wu asked, "It sounds like Fortress agents are different from players?"
Little White Rabbit answered, "The rules are generally the same, but with two differences. The first is that Fortress agents can take on exclusive tasks at specific safe houses. The second is that when Fortress agents die, if their equipment has not been claimed by others, it will be stored in the designated safe house for Fortress agents. All this stems from the wager agreement between Fortress and Dawn."
The Earth Super City was built by Fortress Company, and the immigration of a million people to Earth was a huge project. Fortress Company didn’t ask for money; instead, they proposed a wager agreement to Dawn.
Among the million immigrants, there were ten Fortress agents whose ability to receive exclusive tasks varied in difficulty. After completing the tasks, they would gain points. When the game ended, the ownership share of the Earth Super City’s land that Fortress Company would hold was determined by the ranking positions and the point disparity of these ten agents.
The Earth Super City’s land was divided into three categories: the first consisted of public facilities like police stations, roads, fire stations, city halls, and museums, which were owned by Dawn. The second was private land, where each immigrant would receive a house based on their score upon arrival on Earth. The third encompassed all other lands and buildings, such as shops, office buildings, and ports, excluding the first two categories.
The wager concerned the third category of resources. Suppose there were a hundred units of the third category; Fortress would take forty shares based on the agents’ points, leaving the remaining sixty for Dawn to manage. As immigrants settled in, a wealth gap would inevitably emerge, even without considering points.
For instance, Lin Wu had a high score, exchanging plenty of currency. Wanting to buy a shop, he could purchase one from Dawn, who was willing to transfer the land and buildings to the public. And so, Lin Wu could become the landlord of a shop. If Fortress Company were willing to sell their shops at a low price, Lin Wu could also purchase from them.
At the beginning of immigration, people didn’t have much currency, which was directly related to their points. The only resource Fortress Company had on Earth was the land and buildings they won in the wager, and they needed money for their capital operations. They might consider selling land and buildings early on to secure initial capital.
