Chapter 71 - 70: Demolition
Shana observed the movements of the Corpse Tide Patrol, while Lin Wu tied a rope to a water pipe and, after pulling it hard twice, gave Shana a thumbs-up. The two of them slid down to the ground floor in quick succession, step by step. They opened a safe passage with crossbow arrows and the Silencer. After crossing the highway, they safely reached the vicinity of the signal tower, mounted their motorcycles, crossed the bridge, and finally left the jurisdiction of Left County’s city.
However, time was late, and the zombies from the tent area had already clocked in at the Sentry Card for work. It took the two of them quite a bit of time and energy to safely get past the Sentry Card. After coming and going, it was already nine in the morning when they returned to the Former Shadow Base. At the Sentry Card, Lin Wu handed the walkie-talkie to Shana and went off to attract the zombies, leaving the task of explaining to her. Lin Wu really didn’t want to face everyone’s emotions upon returning to the base.
After listening to Shana’s explanation through the walkie-talkie, everyone, who hadn’t slept all night, finally relaxed. Bai Ban went about their work as usual. As for Stone, he was at the gate to welcome them back, readmitting them into the Former Shadow Base without much emotional fluctuation, but with more curiosity. Stone called for Maya, who was busy in Apartment 3, to return to the base with Bai Ban. One, to deliver supplies, and two, to hold a small meeting to brief everyone on the situation in Left County.
After the meeting started, everyone first welcomed the two back alive. Next was the work report, followed by Maya and Stone beginning to feel a headache. The situation in Left County was worse than they anticipated, and the development of the Former Shadow Base was going quite well, enough to be considered the leader in both Left and Right Counties. With the Former Shadow Base’s influence, attacking the mid-sized base in Left County would be challenging, but not impossible. The difficulty lay in ensuring the safety of personnel leaving the base after moving into Left County. From what they could see, the base’s strength could still be improved, but only with limited room for growth.
Not many people could accept losing a team member every few days, and few were willing to risk going out.
Shana asked, "Is there a possibility that Dawn’s preset mechanism is a steely base and flowing soldiers, normalizing the death of personnel?"
Maya replied, "I don’t think so. I believe Dawn wants to emphasize the importance of base facilities. Survival is no longer an issue for the Former Shadow Base. If everyone only builds the essential sickbeds and dorms, what’s the point of the hundred different facilities that can be constructed? For instance, outdoor grids can be used to build sentry towers, which can reduce the threat level daily and improve the sentry’s range and accuracy."
Shana said, "The sentry towers require daily ammunition to maintain."
Maya said, "Correct, which forces players to go out and search for supplies. Sentry towers can provide support to players beyond the safe zone. Additionally, sentry towers can be upgraded, but it requires specialized blueprints. Those staying at the base will also have to take on the responsibility of protecting those who venture out. Moreover, the base’s safe zone can be expanded, as can outposts, and sub-bases can be established. All these facilities can reduce the dangers faced by those going out. More importantly, there’s the Blood Plague. I think instead of viewing the Blood Plague as a high-difficulty boss, we should see it as an opportunity."
