Chapter 52 - 50: Unknown Virus
I stared at the scene before me, my face frozen in shock. The people lying on the ground were screaming and crying, begging for help. One voice stood out among the rest, trembling with despair.
"I’d rather die than suffer from this pain..."
My eyes widened as I processed the horror before me. King Altabet stepped forward, dropping to his knees. His voice was filled with desperation. "It’s a selfish wish, but please... Lady Sumi... save my people..."
I slowly turned to him, my heart heavy. Aurthor and Gearor also knelt, their heads bowed. I looked back at the suffering people, their agony etched into every writhing body. In a soft, determined voice, I said, "King Altabet..."
He raised his head, his eyes filled with hope. I gave him a small, reassuring smile. "I’ve already told you... this country’s people are also my people."
As I spoke, for them a bright light seemed to emanate from behind me, casting my figure in an almost divine glow. The king and his companions stared at me, their eyes wide with awe.
I stepped forward, walking into the room filled with suffering. In the center, a woman in a green, glowing magic mask sat beside a small boy. She held his hand, tears streaming down her face as she whispered, "I’m sorry... I can’t do anything... I want to save you... I don’t want you to suffer anymore..."
I placed a gentle hand on her shoulder. She turned, her eyes widening as she recognized me. "G-Goddess..." she stammered, quickly dropping to her knees and bowing her head. "You’re here... You’re here to save us..."
Her voice caught the attention of others in the room. As they saw me, their eyes filled with hope and disbelief.
I walked past her, kneeling beside the small boy. His chest was a sickly purple, his face distorted, and his eyes bulging unnaturally. "Let me take care of it," I said softly.
The woman behind me watched, her eyes brimming with tears.
