Chapter 307: Chapter 307 Encounter with Wolves on the Mountain Chapter 307: Chapter 307 Encounter with Wolves on the Mountain “Ei! Here I come!”

Big Bull turned his head back, took long strides to return to Xuexue’s side, bent down to pick the wood ear mushrooms, and as he picked them, he said, “Wifey, it seems like we haven’t reached deep into the mountains yet. Why have we stopped?”

“There are wood ear mushrooms here for picking, so we won’t go any further.” Originally, Xuexue thought that the outskirts had been picked clean by the villagers, but to her surprise, there were so many here that she decided against venturing further into the mountains.

“Oh!”

Soon, the wood ear mushrooms on a section of the stump were all picked by them. After walking a few more meters, they saw a rotten log on the ground, densely covered with wood ear mushrooms. Overjoyed, Xuexue quickly squatted down to pick them.

“Ao wu…!”

Suddenly, the grass nearby rustled tumultuously.

“Big Bull, what was that noise?” Xuexue stopped picking the mushrooms and listened intently.

“Wifey, be careful, we’ve encountered wolves.” Big Bull, experienced and knowledgeable, knew immediately that they had come across wolves upon hearing the howl.

“But this isn’t the deep mountains; how could there be wolves?” Xuexue was greatly alarmed.

Because she knew that wolves are social animals. If there was one, then perhaps there was a whole pack of them nearby.

“Who knows! Maybe it’s just a lone wolf.” After listening carefully, Big Bull did not hear any other sounds.

Big Bull was very alert; he swiftly stood up from the ground, his eyes fixating on the bushes.

“Ao wu…!” Another wolf howl resounded.

He then scooped up Xuexue and leapt onto an adjacent century-old tree.

Indeed, as soon as they stabilized themselves on the tree, a wolf shot out from the bushes with a whoosh. With its glowing green eyes, it looked up fiercely at Big Bull and Xuexue on the tree. It walked around the base of the tree several times, as if it was desperate and raging from the inability to reach its prey.

“Ao… wu…!”

Suddenly, the wolf’s howl became drawn out and lengthy, sounding different from before.

“Not good!” Big Bull exclaimed.

“What is it?” Xuexue was puzzled and asked Big Bull.

“It’s calling for its companions!” Big Bull became anxious. “Wifey, hide well in the tree. I’m going to kill it, otherwise, if it calls its companions, we’ll be in trouble.”

“Big Bull, be careful,” Xuexue instructed while handing him a sickle. She was painfully aware that if a pack of wolves were summoned, the consequences could be devastating. This was the mountain’s periphery, home to many villagers, and if the pack descended from the mountains, who knew how many villagers would suffer.

“Mm!”

Big Bull took the sickle and leapt nimbly, landing lightly on the ground.

The wolf, upon seeing someone bravely jumping down from the tree, was excited. Its hungry eyes gleaming, it charged forward with the posture of a wolf pouncing on a sheep, eager to tear apart its prey and feast.

Big Bull’s figure flickered, and he vanished from the spot.

The wolf was utterly baffled. How could this human be so formidable?

“Swoosh!”

Big Bull swung his sickle at the wolf’s head with all his might.

“Ao wu!”
