Chapter 278: A Noble’s Dungeon
As soon as Melina and I started going down the stairs, we both felt a surge of magic coming from the ceiling.
I could easily lift my hand and touch the ceiling since it wasn’t a very expansive underground hallway, and when I did, it felt strange.
"It’s like a combination of MP and demonic energy..." I muttered.
Inspecting it closer, I deduced it was an enchantment that had been placed inside the secret room, and it was hiding the presence of whatever was inside.
"Mel, let’s be careful..." I said, trying to dispel the enchantment from the underground hallway.
However, the fact that it was combined with demonic energy didn’t allow me to do so, so we had no other choice but to ignore it and keep walking.
When the room opened up, we found ourselves in a dark prison with cells on both sides of the hallway.
The first few cells were empty, but we could still see blood splatters inside, making us clench our fists a bit nervously as we scanned our surroundings.
Our "search" spell wasn’t working since the enchantment was blocking it. Luckily, the dungeon only had two hallways that crossed each other, so it wouldn’t be hard to look around the entire place.
At one point, we reached a cell where an old man was loudly coughing while sitting in the corner, and when he saw the two of us walking by, he hugged his knees and hid his face with fear.
The man wasn’t that old, but his miserable appearance added a few years to his looks. His hair seemed half-white as if it was decoloring from stress, and he had bruises and cuts all over his body.
