Henry felt that his world had been shattered into pieces. He opened his mouth, trying to find a way to defend himself, but he couldn’t.
He simply stared at Kate dumbly. He wanted to cry but knew it would only make him look even more insincere. So he held his tears and tried to pacify his beloved.
"Katherine, we... we can talk about this—"
"Talk? What’s there to talk about? You tricked me this whole time! I foolishly abandoned everything because I love you! I foolishly thought that you truly want the best for us!" Kate’s lips trembled. Her eyes began to pool with tears again. "You are wretched, Henry. You’re even more wretched than Matthew."
Henry couldn’t handle any more cruel words coming out of Kate’s mouth. It was like a barrage of knives that stabbed his heart repeatedly.
He dropped to his knees and grabbed Kate’s hand tightly, looking up at her, "Kate, please, I can explain this! We can fix this! I wasn’t thinking straight at that time! I was overcome by grief, and thought that you caused it! It was Sarah who fed me with lies!"
Kate’s heart began to waver when Henry fell to his knees to beg her. His eyes were so desperate and sincere as if he was truly at a loss right now.
But she quickly denied the feeling and told herself, ’This man has tricked you for almost a year. Don’t you realize this is just one of his tricks to make you do what he wants? He even throws the blame to someone else even though he is the main culprit.’
