Cosmic Paragon

Chapter 102 - 101: The Arena

Professor Herman stood in front of his class and asked.

"How are Black Gates formed?"

There were all kinds of responses from the students and the Professor nodded encouragingly at them. Most of them pointing to the first Black Gate’s calamity a thousand years ago, and spatial cracks.

He spoke when there were no more responses.

"Lots of people believe that Black gates are simply rifts in space that lead to the abyss caused by spatial cracks. But not all spatial rifts lead to the Abyss."

He continued, "There is a theory that our world and the abyss can be compared to two bubbles floating in the void. These bubbles will sometimes come in contact with each other, during contact these two bubbles will partially merge. It is this merger that creates rifts or as we call them Black Gates. During this contact the denizens of both worlds can cross between worlds. The ways we have found to close these gateways is to destroy them by bombing. When the nodes connecting both worlds are broken, then the two bubbles will separate once again. But why is it that this phenomena only started from a thousand years ago?"

All the students pondered this question in silence.

Professor Herman continued, "It is believed that until a thousand years ago, the used to be a thin veil that separated the two worlds. However, a thousand years ago during that unfortunate incident, this veil separating both worlds had been destroyed by that portal. If I were to use an analogy to describe it, I would say try to picture our world as a bubble inside a balloon. Now that spatial portal was like a needle poking the balloon blowing it up and exposing our world to the things outside."

All the students were enraptured by the lecture including Drake. This was quite the fascinating topic.

...

Drake returned to his dorm after class and sat in his bed after lunch.
