Chapter 419 - 419: Substitute Bride of the Demon King (23)
Silas pursed his lips, suppressed the irritability in his heart, and stared at the familiar yet unfamiliar face with a threat.
"You better not play any other tricks; otherwise, I will never let you go," he warned.
Yue Ran could not help but laugh, and then said to him seriously, "I just want to help you treat your wounds. I am not going to hurt you."
Silas snorted coldly at her words.
The male protagonist then turned silent and motionless. Seeing this, Yue Ran knew that the man had listened to her. With a sense of cautious optimism, she slowly lifted her hand and carefully held the palm that was clasped on the wrist. As her fingers made contact, she noticed that the wounds on his palm were not severe; it was just that they had not been treated for a long time, so the dried blood clots had crusted over his skin.
Yue Ran soaked a clean handkerchief in fresh, cool water and carefully cleaned the dried blood around the wounds. Her movements were very light and gentle, like a feather, brushing the skin of the palm from time to time, vaguely bringing a slightly strange, itchy feeling.
This odd sensation made Silas frown. It did not come from the touch of her hand, but from his heart— a very strange feeling was spreading within him, something that stirred in the recesses of his heart. It was a sensation akin to a soft, persistent pressure that seemed to pinch the very tip of his heart, making him feel very, very odd.
Silas was not accustomed to this feeling and subconsciously tried to pull his hand back, but he was gently held down. Yue Ran looked at him and said, "Do not move; you will be fine soon."
Silas gazed at the young woman coldly, trying his best to make his expression appear less strange.
"Hurry up," he said sternly. "I do not have so much time to spend on you."
"Got it," Yue Ran said, nodding as she sped up her movements. She quickly moved the gauze from the silver tray that would be utilized to wrap his wounds and set it aside for later use. Her hands were very thin and soft, and her slightly white fingertips pinched the handkerchief and wiped around his wounds very carefully.
Silas's eyes slowly moved along her fingers to her face. In an instant, he discovered that her features were much different from Ellie's than he had initially thought. This woman had a small mole on her forehead— one of the features that Ellie clearly did not have— hidden in between her bangs, and her eyes were very gentle when she looked at others.
Yue Ran applied medicine to the Demon King's wounds and reminded him softly and carefully, "Fortunately, the wound is not deep. It will itch a little after I have applied the medicine. Remember not to let the wounds touch the water. They will recover very soon— either tomorrow or a little later than that."
Silas snorted coldly. This woman was so brave that she dared to educate about such a trivial matter. Did she really believe that she could get away with saying whatever she wanted just by helping him a few times? Ridiculous!
In the end, Silas was too lazy to pay attention to Yue Ran. The air was quiet and still, but even so, there was no awkward atmosphere between them at all.
Yue Ran could not help but think: this male protagonist is such a boring person. It is no wonder that the female protagonist ran away from the forced marriage. If I were with him, I would also be bored to death. Just like now.
After treating the wounds on his palms and chest, Yue Ran finally breathed a sigh of relief. She smiled softly at him and said, "Your Majesty, it is done." Then she picked up the scattered medicine bottles and gauze from the table and arranged them back on the silver tray.
Silas looked at the bandaged wound, raised his eyebrows, and stared at Yue Ran again, pressing, "What secret were you talking about earlier?"
He only cared about this one matter.
Yue Ran sighed lightly, seeming a little disappointed, but she quickly adjusted herself. Her clear eyes held a little smile as she gestured for the man to come closer.
"Come closer and I will tell you," the young woman said.
Silas's expression immediately turned cold. "What on earth are you trying to do?"
Yue Ran looked at him innocently, waving her empty hands in front of him to show that she had nothing in them.
"Are you afraid of a weak woman like me?" she asked, blinking. "I have already said that I will not lie to you, so come closer, and I will tell you my secret."
Silas looked at her like this, and no one knew what he was thinking at that moment. He was obviously repulsed in his heart, but in the end, he still leaned his head closer.
Yue Ran chuckled and moved close to his ear, her warm breath rising and falling, brushing against his skin.
"I am only telling this to you alone— the secret is that the female pig raised by the kitchen lady is pregnant and has given birth to seven piglets, whose colors are different from the boar she raised," Yue Ran said. "Now the boar is angry and suspects that the sow has cheated on him—"
The young woman's voice sounded lively as she told this story. But Silas's face turned dark. Before she could tell him more about the scandalous drama, he bellowed, "Get away from me!"
Anger surged in his heart. He felt as if he had been betrayed. Silas had never been a good-tempered person, not to mention that the woman in front of him still dared to make fun of him like this.
Yue Ran obviously expected the man's reaction and nimbly dodged his push.
