Chapter 63: The Gate of Destiny: Jane’s Choice
A faint light filtered in through the partially open window, casting soft, golden hues across the room.
Jane stirred gently from her sleep, her violet eyes fluttering open like delicate petals after a storm. Her body still felt weak, but the warmth wrapped around her heart told her she was safe.
Then she saw him.
Kaal, sitting at her bedside, his white hair slightly messy, his eyes tired but gentle. He was watching her like she was the most precious thing in the world.
"You’re awake," he said, voice low and soothing.
Before she could respond, Kaal leaned in and gently pressed his lips to her forehead, a lingering, tender kiss that made her heart ache with a warmth she didn’t know she needed.
Her lips trembled. "Young Master..."
"Shh," he said softly, "You need to eat first. You’ve been sleeping for two days."
He helped her sit up, adjusting the pillows behind her with care, before lifting a bowl of warm herbal soup and carefully raising a spoon. He spooned it to her lips, and Jane drank slowly, her gaze never leaving his.
The bitterness of the herbs didn’t matter. Nothing did he do when he was here.
After a few more sips, Kaal set the bowl aside and said quietly, "Jane... I want to hear what happened in your trial."
