Logan sat on the edge of his bed the next day, dark circles under his eyes as he glanced at the time.
He got up from his bed, stretching before walking to the balcony.
The sun stood high on the horizon, shining softly on the snowy streets.
He hadn’t slept much.

’Someone has to stand between kids like that and whatever crawls out of the ocean.’
He thought back to his own life.
Sure, he’d seen people die all around him. But never like that, never something this personal.
Hell, most of his life he’d practically spent without family or even anyone to care about at all.
