Chapter 28 – Out of Calculation
Outside, on the candle-lit terrace, the cool breeze swept in again.
Lux exhaled slowly. Let his posture drop just enough to be real.
Naomi lifted her wine glass. Tilted it toward him with a faint smile.
"You good?" she asked softly, her tone sincere and quiet in the aftermath of beauty and danger.
Lux grinned.
"Oh Naomi," he whispered low, like a secret he didn’t mind her keeping, "I’m in my element."
The candles flickered in approval.
Then, mercifully, their food arrived.
An elegant procession—steak glazed with elderroot butter, ethereal mist curling off enchanted vegetables, a glass bowl filled with fruit petals and tempura scallops. Even the bread had infused herb dust.
"Okay," Lux said, loosening his collar. "This might be the first real vacation thing I’ve done."
