Primordial Heir: Nine Stars

Chapter 473: After Party Celebration

The birthday party continued, the warmth of the evening settling over the restaurant like a soft blanket. The candles flickered, casting dancing shadows on the walls. The laughter and chatter filled the space, a symphony of joy and friendship.

Each of them gave their gifts. Adam presented a finely crafted dagger, its blade etched with intricate runes. Blake offered a rare book on light magic, its pages yellowed with age. Khione gave a small, elegant box containing a silver chain, its pendant a tiny sunburst. And Nero stepped forward, the small compass in his hand.

Lux accepted each gift with a grin, his eyes bright, but he did not open them. Not yet. He was too eager to continue celebrating, to soak in the warmth of the moment. He set the gifts aside, promising to open them later, and turned back to the party.

More cadets arrived as the evening deepened. Friends from classes, allies from missions, acquaintances drawn by the sound of celebration. The restaurant grew crowded, the tables pushed aside to make room for dancing. The music shifted, becoming livelier, more infectious.

Various activities sprang up. A group of cadets started a game of cards in the corner, their laughter rising above the music. Others crowded around a small stage that had been set up, daring each other to sing or tell stories. The atmosphere was electric, charged with the joy of the moment.

Blake, true to form, had already claimed a corner of the room. He lay curled on a cushioned bench, his eyes closed, his breathing slow and even. The noise around him seemed to fade, a bubble of peace in the midst of the celebration. No one disturbed him. They knew better.

Adam, on the other hand, was in his element. He had positioned himself near a group of female cadets, his grin wide, his voice smooth. He was telling a story—a tale of a mission gone wrong, exaggerated for effect. The cadets laughed, their eyes bright, and Adam’s grin widened.

On the dance floor, Lux moved with the music. He was a natural, his silver hair catching the light, his steps easy and confident. He danced with Elreth, her red hair a flame against his silver. They moved together, their steps synchronized, their laughter mingling. They did not speak, but the dance was its own conversation. Azalea was chatting with some elven cadets from the other classes.

Nero watched for a moment, a small smile on his lips. Then he turned to Khione, who stood beside him, her white hair soft in the dim light.

"May I have this dance?" he asked, extending his hand.

Khione’s lips curved into a rare smile. "You may."

She placed her hand in his, and he led her to the floor. The music shifted again, the upbeat tempo slowing into something softer, more romantic. A melody of piano and strings filled the room, its notes gentle and sweet.

They faced each other, his hand on her waist, hers on his shoulder. Their other hands clasped, fingers interlaced. The light seemed to focus on them, a soft golden glow that set them apart from the crowd.

They began to move, slow and rhythmic. His steps were sure, hers graceful. They swayed together, their bodies in perfect harmony. Around them, the noise of the party faded, becoming a distant hum. There was only the music, the light, each other.

Khione looked up at him, her ice-blue eyes soft. "You’re a good dancer," she said.

He smiled. "I learned from the best."

"And who was that?"

He paused, a flicker of something—memory, perhaps, or grief—passing through his eyes. "My mother. She taught me. A long time ago."

Khione squeezed his hand. "She taught you well."

They continued to dance, their steps unhurried. The music wrapped around them, a cocoon of sound and feeling. The light shifted, casting long shadows across the floor. The party continued around them, but they were in their own world.

Nero leaned close, his lips brushing her ear. "Thank you," he said. "For today. For being here."

Khione pulled back, her eyes meeting his. "I will always be here."

The song ended, and they stood still, hand in hand, surrounded by the warmth of the moment. Then the music shifted again, and the crowd around them cheered.

Nero smiled, his hand still holding hers. "Do you want to continue?"

Khione nodded. "Yes. I do."

They began to dance again, their steps matching the rhythm of the new song. The night stretched before them, full of laughter and light.

The party had reached a fever pitch. The music was loud, the laughter infectious, the air thick with the warmth of celebration. In the corner of the restaurant, a small crowd had gathered around a dartboard that had been set up against the wall. At the center of the crowd stood Nero and Lux, their faces alight with competitive fire.

"Best of three?" Lux asked, a dart already in his hand.

"Best of five," Nero replied. "I’m not letting you off that easily."

Lux grinned. "You’re on."

The first round began. Lux threw first, his aim precise, his dart striking the bullseye with a satisfying thud. The crowd cheered. Nero stepped up, his gaze focused, and threw. His dart landed just beside Lux’s, a hair’s breadth from the center.

"Close," Lux said. "But close only counts in horseshoes."

Nero’s eyes narrowed. "We’ll see."

The game continued, each throw more intense than the last. Lux was a natural, his hand steady, his aim true. Nero was methodical, calculating, adjusting his technique with each throw. The score remained even, a back-and-forth battle of skill and will.

"Five all," Lux announced. "Next round decides."

Nero took a deep breath, his focus narrowing to the board, the dart in his hand, the target before him. He threw. The dart struck the bullseye, dead center. The crowd erupted in cheers.

Lux raised an eyebrow. "Impressive. But can you do it again?"

He stepped up, his movements fluid, and released his dart. It struck the board with precision, landing in the same spot. The crowd gasped.

"Seven all," Lux said. "I told you. Close only counts in horseshoes."

Nero’s lips curved into a smile. "It’s not over yet."

The game continued, the tension building with each throw. The crowd grew larger, drawn by the spectacle. The other activities faded into the background. All eyes were on the dartboard, on the two friends locked in battle.

Khione, Elreth, and Azalea sat together at a nearby table, their eyes fixed on the competition. Khione’s expression was neutral, but her gaze was sharp, tracking each throw with quiet intensity. Elreth leaned forward, a faint smile on her lips.

"He’s actually going to win," Elreth murmured.

Khione tilted her head. "It’s not over yet."

Azalea sipped her drink, her eyes twinkling.

"This is more entertaining than the circus."
