Chapter 60: Crazy Woman

Hearing her words, fear gripped Dapper.

"So, are you here to turn me in?" Dapper asked, clenching his fists. A flood of thoughts raced through his mind. He considered slitting her throat, but that would only be a desperate attempt, he couldn’t realistically kill someone of her level. So he stood still, heart pounding, his mind spinning with possibilities.

A smile crept across Lily’s face. "Thank goodness you knew I had you on the hook. I would’ve been pissed if you tried to deny it, you know? But because of your sharp perception... I think I like you," she said with another grin, licking her index finger slowly, almost teasingly.

"I don’t get you. If you’re here to turn me in, just do it already. Don’t play games," Dapper said with a frown, clearly irritated by her behavior.

"Tee-hee, you’re the impatient type, huh? Actually, I acted completely on my own. I’m not publicly known as a detective. In fact, only a few people know that side of me, it’s a secret. To everyone else, I’m just an excellent Mage, a teacher, and an elite soldier. But in reality, I’m much more than that," Lily said, still making strange gestures with her fingers.

Her actions didn’t come off as threatening to Dapper. In fact, it felt more like he was the one missing something here. As a trained assassin, one of his core skills was reading emotional cues. And right now, Lily didn’t seem like a threat, at least not yet.

"So, what do you stand to gain from this? Are you trying to blackmail me for money? Or do you want a share of the Freeman Industry?" Dapper asked, finally taking a seat on the bed.

His question made Lily burst into laughter, which only deepened Dapper’s annoyance.

"You still don’t get it. It’s not about money. Sure, the Freeman family’s sudden success caught my attention but I was just curious. Fame and wealth out of nowhere? That’s suspicious. And I love sticking my nose where it doesn’t belong, so I did some digging. But instead of uncovering financial fraud or under-the-table deals... I found something far more fascinating; another Rankless system user, just like me," Lily revealed, making Dapper’s eyes widen in shock.

"Wait... Y-You’re also a Rankless system user?" Dapper muttered.
