Chapter 26: One Wish
Arriving at school, Dapper headed straight to the principal’s office. Normally, results were posted on the school’s online portal for students to check themselves—or alternatively sent to their guardians by mail. But for some reason, final year students were instructed to collect theirs in person.
Dapper knocked on the principal’s office door.
"Come in," a deep voice boomed from within.
Without hesitation, Dapper opened the door and stepped inside. The principal sat behind a wide table cluttered with documents and files. His eyes were fixed on the screen before him as his fingers clacked away on the keyboard. He was a bald man, seemingly in his early fifties, with a white goatee beard and massive pimple bumps dotting his cheeks.
"Good morning, sir," Dapper greeted politely.
"Uhh, what’s your name? What do you want?"
"My name is Dapper Freeman. I’m here to collect my results. I’m a final year student, Class—" Dapper began listing out the required details.
The principal nodded while listening, then paused his typing and started sifting through the scattered files, mumbling under his breath. Suddenly, he stopped and lifted his head as if recalling something important.
"A teacher came by this morning—Mrs. Layla, I believe. She collected your result. Since she was your homeroom teacher, I handed it over to her," the principal said.
"Mrs. Layla? Did she take everyone’s results?" Dapper asked, surprise still in his voice.
"No, just yours. She probably wants to speak to you about something. You can leave now," the principal waved his hand, dismissing Dapper without a second glance.
