Chapter 840 - 852: The Grim Reaper’s Plan
"Don’t be surprised, is there only one King in the world?" Cranvo smiled easily, "Many races and cultures have their own Grim Reaper. Some are my aspects; others are not, like the Raven Queen worshiped by the Shadow Spirits or Rose followed by the Zoel. In the known world, I am indeed the most recognized Grim Reaper among mortals, but who knows what kind of existences lie in the distant lands beyond the Multiverse?"
"Is that so..." Lancelot nodded, accepting this explanation since he had already seen beings from ’another universe’. "But even if Peyton really becomes a Grim Reaper on the material plane, his power would be far inferior to yours. Dispelling him should be an easy task, right?"
"Conflicts between gods take an entirely different form. Our essence is more akin to a ’concept’, and you cannot destroy a ’concept’ with sword and steel," Cranvo sighed. "Unless there’s another Saint’s Cataclysm, the only way to annihilate a True God is to completely destroy Its faith—usually by killing all Its followers."
"Killing all Its followers?" Lancelot gasped, "Can’t their faith be transformed?"
"Of course, but the essence of faith makes it hard to change under external forces; it might even become stronger," Cranvo’s voice carried a hint of subtle weariness. "As the Lord of the Dead, it’s my duty and obligation to maintain the order of death, and Peyton’s actions leave me no choice. But if possible, I hope it doesn’t come to that. I believe you feel the same?"
"Certainly." Lancelot nodded earnestly, "What must I do, under the Grim Reaper’s orders, to prevent that from happening?"
"Religious wars have their own methods," Cranvo showed a somewhat peculiar smile. "Have you ever spread faith, Sir Lancelot?"
"Spread faith?" Lancelot froze for a moment, then quickly caught on. "You mean, to counter Peyton by spreading your faith?"
"Yes," Cranvo nodded. "As long as most people doubt Peyton’s claims, his attempts to become a god will be in vain."
"I see. And after all, you are the true Lord of the Dead, whereas that Lich is just a counterfeit..." Lancelot’s expression turned a bit conflicted. "But I...it’s not that I doubt your teachings, but I’ve never done such a thing before..."
