Chapter 833 - 845: Secret Room
Lancelot and his companions found the hidden staircase behind the bar and ascended to the second floor of the inn. The walls on both sides of the corridor were covered in sword marks and bloodstains. In the open guest rooms lay shattered corpses, many of whom had been enjoying carnal pleasures before being killed. Lancelot muttered to himself, wondering why this service wasn’t offered when he stayed here before.
At the end of the corridor, they found a heavy door adorned with complex patterns. Lancelot pushed it, discovering it was tightly locked. However, the brass keyhole below the handle provided enough of a hint. He took out the key he had found earlier on the maid’s corpse, inserted it into the keyhole, and with a soft click, the door opened effortlessly.
Lancelot re-entered the luxurious room with the bear-skin rug and crystal chandelier. The room still had the velvet-covered long table, silver candelabras, and beautiful vases. He even recognized the chair he had sat in not long ago, as if the massacre he had just seen at the inn had never occurred.
To be fair, Lancelot had enjoyed a lavish feast here not long ago. He never imagined that he would return so quickly, with the blood of the servants still clinging to his shoes.
"Tsk, this place isn’t bad," the Zombie Princess said in a somewhat mocking tone. "It barely suits the baroness’s title."
Lancelot walked to one side of the room, pushing open the service hatch and looking down. The corpse of a maid, now only half of her body left, sat serenely as if still waiting for her master’s call.
"Is this the entrance to the secret chamber?" Soveris asked, leaning in with interest, only to turn pale and back away after seeing the scene below.
"No. It’s over here."
Lancelot walked to the other side of the room where a heavy curtain hung. He lifted it only to find an ordinary stone wall behind it. Frowning, he recalled the scene from that day, replaced the curtain, and found a hidden cord in the folds. Gently pulling it, he immediately heard a faint mechanical sound. He lifted the curtain again, and the stone wall had disappeared, replaced by an upward staircase.
"Impressive," Soveris gave him a thumbs-up. "But didn’t you say what we’re looking for is underground?"
