The Paladin in the Abyss

Chapter 827 - 838: The Reason

"Based on the information I’ve gathered, since Zariel became the new Archduke of Avernus, the Blood War has entered a new peak. The main forces of Barto Hell are now invading the Abyss, a situation that has not occurred in thousands of years." Lancelot touched his nose. "The fiercer the fighting, the greater the demand for new recruits. These hags must have made a fortune..."

"Perhaps." The Lord of the Dead nodded his silver mask indifferently, turning to look at the rather puzzled Soveris beside him. "These matters have little to do with you. What matters most is defeating Peyton Derrick to lift the curse from this land completely."

"Yes, great Lord of the Dead." The brown-haired elf lowered his head respectfully to the deity. "Please help us!"

"Of course, I will. All evil undead creatures are my enemies, but ultimately, it relies on yourselves." Cranvo walked to the black raven statue, his gaze lingering on the bird’s finely carved ruby eyes. "Due to the nature of this cursed domain, my power here is very limited. In absolute strength, I’m even inferior to Peyton Derrick, the lord of the demon domain. You needn’t hide this truth. However, I can use the Lord of the Dead’s authority to annihilate the lich completely, but that necessitates the ancient temple dedicated to Milko."

"I see..." Soveris’ face showed disappointment. "But Peyton Derrick wouldn’t walk into the temple willingly..."

"It won’t, of course." Lancelot interjected, "But Fran has provided us with a crucial piece of information."

"Her Highness?" Soveris turned his head in surprise. Lancelot knew he was actually pleased to have an excuse to focus on the zombie princess. "What kind of information?"

"Peyton is missing a bone." Fran shrugged. As an undead, her body was remarkably well-preserved.

"A bone? Does it have any special functions?"

"Lord Cranvo can forcibly resurrect the lich within that bone." Lancelot explained, "This solves the problem of how to make Peyton appear in the ancient temple."
