Chapter 2572: Last Man Standing
Chapter 2572: Last Man Standing
"Hah!"
"Yah!"
After the match began, it didn’t take even a full minute for participants to start dropping. Meanwhile, Yuan, who decided not to use Void Manipulation, used Shadow Veil to completely erase his presence, and with everyone focused on the fight, nobody noticed him even though he was standing still in the middle of the arena.
’If I want to finish a hundred matches in less than a week, I will need to be more active...’
With that in mind, Yuan started going after the easiest targets first—those who had just defeated their opponent and were exhausted—eliminating them in a single strike.
Using such a method, it didn’t take long for the number of participants to drop below ten.
Of course, even with so few people left, none of them noticed Yuan.
Eventually, there was only one participant left... or so the man thought.
"Huh? Why am I still here? Everyone should have been defeated!"
The man who thought he had won looked around to make sure he didn’t miss anyone, and sure enough, he couldn’t see or sense anybody in the arena.
Yet, even after waiting for some time, he was not teleported back to the waiting room. This made him worried that something might have happened with Gaia’s Sanctum, and he was stuck inside.
However, he suddenly felt a sharp pain in his chest the next moment. At first, he thought it was stress from the thought of being stuck, but when he subconsciously turned around, his eyes widened with shock and bewilderment.
"H-How the—"
Standing behind him was a handsome man whom he did not recall seeing at any point during the entire match!
But alas, before he could even question it, he was sent back to the waiting room with a defeated message.
While the man watched the replay to see exactly what had happened, Yuan moved on to the next match, repeating the same tactic and winning with ease and little to no effort.
Soon, a new rumor began spreading throughout Gaia’s Sanctum, mentioning a ghost who roamed Last Man Standing!
"I’m telling you! That man did not exist until the very end! It’s a ghost! A real ghost, I say!" Someone who had managed to make it to the end, only to be killed by Yuan, attested to the rumors’ truth.
Mei Xiaoyun, who had just finished her matches and prepared to leave Gaia’s Sanctum, stopped when she overheard the rumor.
"Ghost of the Colosseum?" she muttered at the nickname the people had given to Yuan.
"L-Look! He’s right there! Ghost of the Colosseum!" Someone shouted, pointing to the display showcasing Last Man Standing.
Curious, Mei Xiaoyun walked over to the screen and watched it.
"Hm? Isn’t that..."
Mei Xiaoyun’s eyes widened with surprise when she saw a familiar face nonchalantly approaching and defeating his opponents in the arena.
’What’s going on? How come everyone is ignoring him, even when he’s standing right in their view?’ Mei Xiaoyun wondered, curious and baffled at the same time by what she was witnessing.
’No... they’re not ignoring him! It’s more like they don’t even notice him!’
The other spectators were just as baffled—if not even more shocked—by what they were witnessing.
Those who had refused to believe the rumors had no choice but to accept them after seeing the Ghost of the Colosseum firsthand, while those who had spread the rumors felt vindicated, as this proved they had not been exaggerating.
"Surely, this must be some kind of elaborated prank, set up to mess with us..." Someone there muttered in a dazed voice.
"And how would they achieve that? It’s not a custom game, so everyone there was randomly chosen by the matchmaking..."
"I don’t know, but it’s easier to believe that whatever I am seeing right now..."
"Hey, isn’t he the same guy who was using that weird movement technique in One Above All?"
Someone there recognized Yuan.
"Who?"
The man proceeded to recall the last rumor about Yuan.
"Seriously, who the hell is this guy?"
Mei Xiaoyun stayed and watched several matches before leaving Gaia’s Sanctum, returning to work.
Time passed quickly, and in just five days since he started his first Last Man Standing match, Yuan reached his monthly limit.
<You have won your match>
<You are on a winning streak!>
<Win Streak: 100>
<You have defeated 42 players>
<You have earned 42 Gaia Points>
<You have earned 50 Gaia Points for being the last man standing>
<You have received Limitless as a reward>
<You have received bonus Limitless for your win streak>
<You have earned 100 additional Gaia Points for your win streak>
<You have reached Third Level Fourth Ascension>
<You have reached Expert Rank>
"Last Man Standing sure gives a lot more points than One Above All," Yuan remarked with a satisfied smile.
In less than a week, Yuan had earned more than twenty thousand points—more than enough to purchase the second part of the Limitless Cultivation Technique, and twenty times what he had earned from One Above All.
However, Yuan did not immediately exchange his points; instead, he went to participate in Endless Assault.
Unlike One Above All and Last Man Standing, since Endless Assault did not involve fighting other players, Yuan was able to start immediately.
<Start Floor 1?>
<Starting Floor 1>
Ten seconds later, Yuan was teleported to a seemingly boundless, empty plain with no walls and a blank sky overhead.
<Enemies will spawn in ten seconds>
Soon, a single enemy appeared.
Yuan raised an eyebrow. His opponent was a faceless, human-shaped entity.
Although it lacked a face, Yuan could tell that it had taken on his appearance, as it possessed the same height and build as him.
As for its cultivation, it was also at Third Level Fourth Ascension, mimicking his own.
"Do I have to fight it barehanded, too?" Yuan wondered out loud.
<You may choose a weapon>
"Oh? In that case, give me a sword."
A moment later, a large sword materialized before him.
A smile tugged at Yuan’s lips when he saw its shape. It closely resembled Number One Under Heaven, making him wonder if the system had read his mind and chosen his preferred weapon.
