"Does that mean the system will not do anything even if someone commits a crime?" Yuan asked.
Officer Mei nodded.
"The only time the system issues punishment on its own is when a user violates one of its rules, such as breaking a contract. Other than that, it’s up to the real justice system to punish the criminals."
"What’s the crime rate like in this world?" Yuan then inquired.
"In the Minor Sectors? We get hundreds of cases every day."
"That’s a lot."
"Not really. Since it accounts for all ninety-nine Minor Sectors, only a few cases occur in each Sector every day. In fact, most crimes take place between Sectors 70 and 99," Officer Mei explained.
"I have been wondering about this for a while now, but what is the difference between the Sectors?" Yuan asked. "I thought they were simply names for different areas, but from the way you describe them, there seems to be something more significant."
"The lower a Sector’s number, the better the living conditions in that area. For example, those who live in Sector 1 are generally wealthy, while Sector 99 is referred to by many as the ’Slum,’" she explained with a heavy sigh.
"Since we’re in Sector 10, I guess we’re in a pretty good area?" Yuan remarked.
She nodded and said, "I’m actually surprised that you managed to get here with your low Credential Rank. Normally, you’d need at least Rank 3 to even get beyond Sector 30."
Yuan shrugged. "When I was teleported to this world, I was already in Sector 11. Speaking of which... why was I able to enter Sector 10 despite only having Rank 1 credentials?"
"Because there is no checkpoint between Sectors 10 and 11. Once you have passed the checkpoint at Sector 20, you can move freely through the areas beyond it, so Sectors 10 to 19. However, entering Sector 9 is a completely different matter."
"Is that so?"
The two continued chatting as they strolled through Sector 10, with Yuan mostly asking questions about their world. Although Officer Mei did not yet believe Yuan had truly come from another world, she answered his questions regardless.
"Do magical beasts exist in this world?" Yuan suddenly asked.
"Magical... beasts? What are those?" Officer Mei responded with a confused look on her face.
"I guess that answers my question," he said before giving a brief explanation. "In my world, they are something like wild beasts. Not only do they cultivate as well, but the people in my world hunt them for their resources."
"We don’t have anything like that," Officer Mei shook her head.
’A world where magical beasts don’t exist, huh? Albeit rare, they existed even in the Demonic Realm...’ Yuan thought to himself.
And since magical beasts are failed experiments as a result of Eternals trying to clone already cloned humans, this meant that the Eternals have yet to touch this world.
’But then what about Gaia...? And according to the technique given to me by the unknown Eternal, I could find the Absolute Power here...’
Yuan lifted his head to look at the sky and sighed inwardly, ’Can I really find the Absolute Power in this place?’
Several hours later—
"It’s already dark. When are we going to stop working?" Yuan asked.
Officer Mei looked at him with a puzzled face and replied, "What do you mean? Don’t tell me you want to stop working after just a mere few hours?"
"Then when do we stop?" Yuan asked with a raised eyebrow.
"We don’t, at least not until your Credential Rank reaches Rank 3."
Yuan’s eyes widened at her words.
"So we’re going to keep working around the clock until my Credential Rank increases?" he asked for confirmation.
"That’s right. You want to increase your credentials as fast as possible, right? Since we only get credentials while we work, we can only keep on working."
Yuan rubbed his eyes and said, "I appreciate you helping me out, but you don’t need to force yourself to work overtime for me. We can start again tomorrow."
"What are you talking about? I am not doing anything special for you; this is just my normal routine. I usually work a few weeks at a time."
Yuan’s jaw dropped at her words.
"That... sounds horrible."
"Does it? It’s not like I have anything else to do."
After hearing such words, Yuan realized that since everyone in this world relied on Gaia’s System to cultivate, they had all the time in the world to do other things.
"If you’re tired, you can head home. And since I doubt you have a place to stay, I’ll let you live in the guest room for now," Officer Mei said a moment later.
Yuan shook his head and said, "No, I’m not tired. I can do this all day, every day, until I reach Credential Rank 3."
Thus, the two of them continued working through the night.
Due to their high cultivation, the people of this world could work for months—or even years—without needing a moment of rest.
This also meant that they had no need for food or water, and those who still ate did so purely for the experience.
At the end of the day, they did not encounter a single incident.
"Hey, tell me about your world," Officer Mei suddenly said.
"Oh?" Yuan looked at her with a somewhat cheeky smile. "Are you starting to believe me?"
"Of course not," she sneered. "I just happen to like fairy tales and fictional stories."
"What do you want to know about my world?" Yuan asked.
"Tell me about—"
Officer Mei suddenly stopped mid-sentence and came to a halt.
"I just received a call from the station. There is an incident that requires our immediate attention."
Without explaining further, Officer Mei started running toward the nearest teleporter.
Fortunately, the nearest teleporter was only a block away, and once both of them were on it, Officer Mei activated it, teleporting them to Sector 18.
