Chapter 107. Sudden Attack
Cain stepped into the police station, his sharp eyes immediately finding Wuner Hudel standing beside his son, Wryn Hudel. Wuner had an air of arrogance about him, his arms crossed over his chest, his lips curled into a smirk as if he was above all of this. Wryn, on the other hand, looked nervous—his hands were clenched tightly, his posture stiff.
Chief Argo, seated at his desk, gave Cain a short nod before motioning for him to take a seat. Cain didn’t bother with pleasantries. His jaw was tight, his fingers twitching slightly against his coat as he took his place across from Wuner.
Argo exhaled and leaned forward. "Cain, after conducting an in-depth investigation, we have strong evidence to suggest that your youngest son, Adrian, was kidnapped by Wuner Hudel when he was only three months old."
Cain’s fingers curled into fists.
Wuner let out an exaggerated scoff, shaking his head. "Why would I need to kidnap a child who was of no use to me?" His voice was laced with mockery, his eyes gleaming with amusement as if the entire situation was nothing more than a joke to him.
Cain’s patience was razor-thin. He leaned forward, his voice dangerously low. "Show me the evidence."
Argo nodded, maintaining his calm demeanor as he pulled a file from his desk and placed it in front of Cain. "See for yourself."
Cain flipped open the file, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the documents and photographs inside.
1. Witness Testimony – Midwife Elisa GrewsonA written statement from a woman named Elisa Grewson was attached. She had been a midwife at the hospital where Jesper gave birth to Adrian. According to her testimony, on the night of Adrian’s birth, a man matching Wuner Hudel’s description had been spotted loitering around the hospital’s maternity ward. He had bribed a nurse for information about newborns in the ward.
"I saw him speaking to Nurse Karen about a child in the VIP ward. The child belonged to a wealthy family, and he seemed particularly interested. I thought nothing of it at the time, but later that night, the baby from that very ward went missing."
2. Security Footage – A Shadow in the NightA grainy black-and-white photograph was clipped to the file. It showed a tall man in a dark coat carrying a bundle wrapped in a hospital blanket. The footage was from a security camera placed near the hospital’s rear exit. While the man’s face wasn’t fully visible, the resemblance to Wuner Hudel was undeniable.
"We used enhanced image processing," Argo explained. "It matches Wuner’s facial structure, gait, and overall build."
