Chapter 209: Insistence
The King and Queen of the Western Kingdom was silent for several minutes. Cordelia was immobile as she was still under Aleksander’s spell. Elys had her face turned away from her husband, and after a while, she heard him sigh deeply.
She felt a gentle hand rub her shoulder, and the young queen turned to face Aleksander’s forlorn face.
"You aren’t happy," the vampire king spoke with certainty.
"No, I am not," Elys frowned. "Would you be happy, my king? If I betray you, or if anyone whom you have trusted for the longest of times ever did? Let us say, what if Henry betrayed you?"
Aleksander tilted his head and wrinkles showed up on his forehead.
"If Henry would betray me, then I would have him killed the very instant I know of his betrayal," Aleksander said with a blank face.
Elys’ eyes bored into him as her gaze deepened. It was as if she was diving into his mind herself, trying to fish out something she wanted to unearth from the deepest trenches of his thoughts and pretentious expressions.
"You lie," Elys said to him, "I know just how much you care for Henry. He has been with you since the day you were thrown to the sides by your good-for-nothing father. Just as much as Cordelia was a motherly figure to me, Henry was more than just an attendant to you."
Aleksander shut his mouth as his wife saw through him without even trying that hard.
To be completely honest, the young king still found it awkward to express a lot of his feelings. He always thought that it made him look vulnerable to his enemies.
Although he wanted to deny the things Elys said about his relationship with Henry, Aleksander didn’t want to argue with her as he found it futile.
