The Crown's Fire

Chapter 147: Euphoria**

Despite the celebrations over King Ezekiel’s victory, there was an undercurrent of concern for his well-being as he remained unconscious. Ezme couldn’t help but ponder the implications of his newfound power and the potential consequences for Ebodia’s relationships with other kingdoms.

"But there’s no question of his power now. Kingdoms will be wary of Ebodia. Marriage alliances with our kingdom and Cordon are not even necessary at this point," Ezme murmured.

As her own wedding approached, Ezme found herself reflecting on her desire for a simple ceremony. She confided in Atlas about her preference for a modest gathering with only their immediate families present. Additionally, she decided against participating in the traditional Coupling Rites due to her inability to control her vampire venom, fearing the risk it posed to Atlas.

Gazing at the stars, Ezme found solace in the tranquility of the night sky. Despite the happiness she felt with Atlas and their blossoming relationship, a sense of unease lingered, hinting at something missing in her life.

Ezme sighed deeply, feeling a pang of impatience. "I’m becoming too greedy already. This is not good. How come he’s still not back?" She missed him dearly; it had been a whole day since she last saw him. Atlas had gone out to attend to some issues beyond the walls of the royal estate, and though she had insisted on accompanying him, he had refused.

A knock on her door interrupted her thoughts, and a servant informed her that Atlas had returned and headed straight to his office.

"That brute," Ezme muttered with a pout. Without hesitation, she shifted into her mist form and hurried to his office.

As she materialized into her human form, she furrowed her brow in surprise. Atlas was indeed in his office, but to her shock, he was slumped in his chair, eyes closed, and holding a document.

Ezme couldn’t resist a soft smile as she observed Atlas. He looked so handsome with his trimmed beard and mustache, and she found herself admiring his curly black hair. Quietly, she approached him, wondering if he had fallen asleep.
