Chapter 263: She’s Mine
Nathan couldn’t help but grimace as he felt the pain of Raine’s grief. In the end, he chose to give her enough space that she needed. He still had a lot of questions for her; a lot of things to discuss and talk about, but he kept his quiet for the moment. In the meantime, he spent most of his time in serious work as the new King of the Moon Clan, as well as the Convel Society’s.
Thankfully, managing the Moon Clan became easy once he finally got the support of most of the people from the clan. After Ester helped him and Davin in telling the truth, the whole clan seemed to have turned around on their distrust. They trusted Princess Ester’s words, and that was alongside the fact that they heard no contest from Marcus’s daughter, Princess Raine.
Exerting his newfound influence, Nathan called for an urgent meeting amongst the officers that still held power inside the Moon Clan, Janus included as he sulked at the sidelines from the sudden turn of events. He might have his own ambitions, he now had no choice but to follow the new order... He could only hope that Raine wouldn’t reconnect with the man that literally killed her father.
In spite of it all, he still had that sliver of hope inside him...
"I need to go back to the Convel Society to wrap things up on that end," Nathan began, exerting a commanding presence inside the room. "While I’m gone, Prince Davin will be in charge with Princess Ester providing ample assistance. I trust that all of you cooperate. We mean you no harm, and we only hope for the betterment of our Clan." He then continued, "We want a peaceful and organized group that isn’t committed to perpetuating any crimes against humanity, nor to any other beings like mutants, as you called it. Also, there’s no need to be afraid of some kind of reprisal. We will proceed with the peace treaty between the Mirage and the Convel Society as was planned before..."
A silence echoed for a brief second before Janus spoke up. "We’re all humans in here, our King. I’m sure that many people inside our territory won’t feel safe... having two mutant royals leading us."
Hearing the voice of opposition, Ester spoke up in kind. "Janus, our family once had a bloodline of werewolves. It’s just that there were some who were born that didn’t inherit it. During his reign, Marcus erased any history about it from the database, as well as forged new details according to his own ideas so that you and your generation wouldn’t be aware of the truth," the elder explained, the others nodding along in agreement. "But now that Marcus is gone, I’ll ask that an update of the database be done to restore it to how it originally was."
Having the backing of the elders, Nathan squinted his eyes at Janus as he mockingly stated, "I believe you’re more of a danger than all of the mutants in here, Doctor Janus. Even so, I still gave you another chance to show your worth in our Clan." He then spoke in length, his expression darkening with each passing word. "This time, I would like you to do various projects that would help in establishing peace and order upon everyone instead of destroying innocent lives. Regardless of mutants or the poor, dead, and innocent bodies that you refused to let rest by experimenting on them, I still granted you this boon. Surely, the government in this country should have a say on this, but then I also understand that you’re merely a subject simply following your superiors." He then added, "You won’t be spared the second time around you. If you do things on your own that will be against our laws and jurisdictions, I will not hesitate to tear you to pieces myself."
"Uncle, be gentle with the man," Davin deviously scoffed. "You already crashed his marriage ceremony. At least let him breathe a bit." It was all in jest, of course. Even now, he still wondered if this Janus was actually aware of Nathan’s relationship with Raine.
"Raine... The wedding is still pending. Only Raine can decide on what to do with it," Janus nervously uttered. "If you’re different from King Marcus, then you shouldn’t dictate the personal lives of your people."
"Ah... On the subject of Raine, she’s under my jurisdiction, so I’ll do whatever I want with her," Nathan stoically declared, his gaze almost making Janus deflate from a lack of air. "I don’t care what you do about your personal life, Janus, but Raine is different... Her life is mine."
