Chapter 246: Getting married soon
Meanwhile, in another part of the Moon Clan compound, Raine heaved out a long deep sigh as she walked towards the laboratory where Janus currently was. She was aware of how quickly the news of her engagement spread like wildfire throughout the entire clan. Even now, she could feel the meaningful glances that everyone was sneakily throwing at her.
"So annoying..."
She grumbled to herself in thinly veiled insecurity. It was stupid. She was supposed to have a reputation of being a badass all around, but here she was cowering like a dog before her father. Letting out a sigh, she stared intently at the paper bag in her hands, her feet moving by themselves as she walked. She would need to dance to her father’s tune for now, and she’d also have to deceive Janus for it to work.
After a few minutes of walking, she finally arrived at the laboratory where Janus was currently working. The man was obviously excited for her surprise visit, and it showed as soon as she opened the door. And for some added privacy, he also dismissed everyone in the room, leaving them by themselves as he ushered her into his office.
"I’m so happy that you’re back, Raine!" Janus happily greeted her as he went to her. He unconsciously hugged her tightly, making Raine slightly choke on her own breath.
"Y-Yeah... I can feel that you’re really happy. But how about you let me breathe, Janus?" Raine humorously asked with a genuine smile. She could feel that Janus indeed cared for her, which only made her feel even more sorry for him since she was unable to reciprocate his feelings. She honestly thought that Janus would manage to get over her as time went on, especially since they barely saw each other anyway. However, it would seem that her absence only made his heart grow fonder, much to her pity.
’I’m sorry, Janus... I’ll have to use your feelings for me right now, but I promise I won’t take long,’ Raine silently apologized in her thoughts before she slipped on her mask of affection once more.
At her words, Janus gently let her go as Raine then handed him the paper bag. "Here. I brought something for you. Just a small token of gratitude for all the help you’ve given me all this time," she smiled. "I realized that I haven’t given you a single thing at all, so I came here to rectify that."
Excitedly, Janus took a peek at what’s inside the bag. Realizing what it was, his eyes glimmered as he said, "This looks good." Then, as if gathering a bit of his courage, he added, "Oh! I have something for you as well."
