Chapter 20
Kael’s POV.
I sat on the cold ground, my arm throbbing where the burning beam had hit me, my chest tight from the smoke we’d barely escaped.
The Fang Pack’s guest house was a wreck, flames still roaring, the air thick with ash and fear. Pack members stood around, their faces pale, their voices low with panic.
My Luna, Celeste; or so everyone thought she was, stood in front of me, her silver gown dirty, her blue eyes wide as she stared at the fire.
I wanted to pull her close, to check every inch of her to make sure she was okay, but then I saw him.
Alpha Nicholas, his silver-streaked hair glinting in the firelight, grabbed her arm, his hand tight on her wrist.
My blood boiled, a pang of jealousy hitting me like a fist. We’d just escaped a fire that could’ve killed us, and here he was, touching my Luna?
My wolf, Zeus, growled low, clawing at my control, ready to rip Nicholas apart. I was about to stand, to shove him away, when something else caught my eye.
His skin; it was clean, smooth, not a single burn or mark. He’d been staying in the guest house, same as us, but he looked untouched, like he’d walked out before the fire even started.
My gut twisted, suspicion crawling up my spine. Did he know something? Was he behind this? I shot to my feet, my boots crunching on the gravel, and grabbed his wrist, yanking his hand off my Luna.
The crowd around us gasped, their eyes wide, but I didn’t care. "Why aren’t you burnt?" I demanded, my voice low, sharp, my eyes glaring into his.
