Chapter 795: Letter
Chapter 795: Chapter 795: Letter
Just as she was about to inspect the flowers, Angel suddenly handed her a letter."This was inside the bouquet. It is for you."
Danielle accepted the letter and held it close to her chest.
The paper felt strangely warm beneath her fingers, and her heart fluttered at the possibility that perhaps, just perhaps, Asher had finally understood what she felt for him.
But if that was the case, then why had Asher confessed to Angel?
The thought immediately brought confusion crashing over her again. Nothing made sense.
With trembling fingers, Danielle opened the letter. Yet the moment she began reading, every lingering doubt inside her vanished.
Asher had written that Danielle was truly a good friend to him and that he knew about her feelings.
However, he expected her not to bring those feelings up in front of him again. The flowers and chocolates were nothing more than a parting gift.
That was all.
He hoped that if they ever met again in the future, Danielle would never mention her feelings or what had happened between them because doing so would only make things awkward.
When Danielle finished reading the letter, the warmth that had briefly filled her heart disappeared completely. It became cold and numb, as though someone had poured ice water directly over it.
So it had all been her wishful thinking.
Thinking back, she remembered that Asher had even mentioned her name at the beginning of the letter. It was painfully obvious now. He wanted to cut things off cleanly and create a clear distance between them.
Danielle’s fingers tightened around the paper. She crumpled the letter, intending to throw it away, but just before she could, she stopped.
Instead, she carefully slipped it into her pocket.
’No. I need to remember this, even after a long time has passed. I need something to remind me that I once loved a fool.’
With that thought, she pushed the letter deeper into her pocket and turned away.
After reaching the office, Danielle immediately noticed the strange looks being directed at her.
Conversations became quieter whenever she walked past, and several people exchanged knowing glances. She endured it all, pretending not to notice, until she heard someone whispering nearby.
"Does she not have even an ounce of shame? How can she go ahead and seduce someone who already has someone else whom he likes?"
The words struck her like a slap.
Danielle lowered her gaze even further and clenched her fist beneath the desk until her nails pressed into her palm.
’I do not need to focus on them. I only need to get through today.’
Repeating those words silently to herself, Danielle forced herself to finish her work. She left early that evening, eager to escape the suffocating atmosphere of the office.
However, when she reached the area near her house, she suddenly saw someone standing there.
