Chapter 166 - Hundred And Sixty Six
Ummm," Suzy murmured in her sleep, shifting slightly in her chair. The figure standing beside her paused, his movements becoming even more cautious, determined not to wake her. His eyes, however, were drawn to the papers scattered across her desk, the documents she had been working on before falling asleep. He picked up a sheet of parchment, his gaze scanning the words written in her elegant script. A frown creased his brow as he read the content, a question forming in his mind. "Why is she investigating my family?" he whispered to himself, his voice barely audible.
He gently placed the paper back on the desk, his eyes returning to Suzy’s sleeping form. He reached out, his arms sliding beneath her, and carefully lifted her from the chair. Suzy stirred slightly, her body instinctively seeking the warmth of his embrace. She shifted, adjusting herself comfortably in his arms, her head resting against his chest.
Her eyelids fluttered open, her vision blurry with sleep. She blinked, trying to focus, and saw Ryan’s face looking down at her. "Ryan?" she mumbled, her voice thick with sleep. "What are you...?"
He gently placed a kiss on her lips, silencing her. "Shhh... go back to sleep," he whispered, his voice soothing.
Suzy, still half-asleep, clung to him, her arms wrapping around his neck. He began to walk, carrying her through the darkened hallways of the castle. "You know I can walk, right?" she asked, her voice a sleepy murmur.
"I know," he replied, his voice low and reassuring. He continued to carry her, his steps steady and sure.
A comfortable silence settled between them, broken only by the soft sound of their footsteps echoing through the empty hallways. Suzy, still drowsy, nestled closer to him, enjoying the warmth of his embrace. The silence, however, felt palpable, charged with unspoken thoughts and feelings. Trying to resolve the comfortable silence, she asked, "When did you finish?"
He replied, "Not too long."
They reached their bedroom, the familiar warmth of the room a welcome sight. Ryan gently placed her on the bed, his touch tender and careful.
