The first rays of sunlight pierced through the curtains, casting a warm glow over the room. Ryan awoke with a start, his heart pounding in his chest. He caught his breath, the memory of last night’s dream still vivid in his mind.
"Please save me, young duke, your grace," he had heard a voice say, a voice pleading for help. The dream had been so real, so terrifying. The same repeated scenarios every time.
He turned to take a glass of water from the table when something pulled him back. It was Suzy, still sleeping peacefully, her arms wrapped around his waist. Her breath followed a steady rhythm, a soft melody in the quiet morning.
Ryan carefully took the glass of water, trying not to disturb her. After he was done, he pushed the stray curls framing her face and kissed her forehead. Eleanor’s words echoed in his mind: "How will she feel when she finds out you are the son of her mother’s murderer?"
A heavy sigh escaped his lips. The voice in his thoughts continued, "Do you know how much she would hate you, how much she would despise you, how much she would loathe you?" Who knows, she might commit suicide again.
Ryan closed his eyes, the weight of the dream pressing down on him. He had always known that his family’s past was dark, but he had never fully understood the extent of their crimes.
Now, he was faced with the possibility that those actions could have devastating consequences for the woman he loved.
He opened his eyes and looked at Suzy, her peaceful expression a stark contrast to the turmoil within him. He loved her more than anything in the world, and he would do anything to protect her.
He continued to look at her sleeping face, her features soft and serene. He traced the delicate lines of her jaw with his fingers, his heart filled with love and longing.
"But how could he protect her when he was the one who could hurt her the most?" He thought to himself.
