The servants quickly dispersed, their eyes filled with curiosity and scandal. Davis turned to Ryan and Suzy, his expression apologetic. "I’m so sorry, Your Graces," he said. "I didn’t mean to interrupt."
Ryan nodded, his face still flushed with embarrassment. "It’s alright," he replied. "Thank you. You can leave."
Suzy remained silent, her gaze fixed on the floor. She was mortified by what had just happened. She had been so lost in the moment that she had forgotten about everything else.
Davis bowed and left the room, closing the door behind him. Ryan and Suzy were alone again, the silence between them thick and heavy.
Ryan was the first to break the silence. "What happened?" He asked, his voice barely a whisper. "What’s wrong?"
There was silence. Suzy still stood there, her heart pounding in her chest. She wanted to move, to leave that place and go to her room, but it felt like her legs were glued to the floor.
Ryan continued, "Did I do something wrong?"
Suzy replied, "This isn’t about you."
Ryan was confused. "Then who or what is it about?" he asked, his voice growing impatient.
Suzy stood there, her mind racing. How could she tell him that Cassandra was dead and she was just occupying her body? The person he loves is the body, not the soul.
