Oh no! After I Reincarnated, My Moms Became Son-cons!

Book 17: Chapter 14

Mom sat in her chair feeling elated. She allowed the lady-in-waiting to fix her long black hair while speaking to me with notable excitement: “Isn’t this a good thing? Son, nobody dares to be impudent in Mommy’s presence. See how successful this was? Daisy was successfully baptised, and everyone is happy. Isn’t that great?”

I quietly laughed: “I’m glad it went without a glitch. To be honest, I was nervous initially, but as I said, I’m glad that it went smoothly. It appears the new church didn’t do anything, as they want to gain the support of the royal family as opposed to being the hot-headed type who’ll do anything without considering repercussions.”

“Isn’t that good? That means they can fight all they want without impacting us.”

Mom flicked her hair, pleased with her hairstyle. Strictly speaking, it didn’t count as a hairstyle. However, being a woman, she was mindful of her hair.

The lady-in-waiting’s expression suddenly froze. She looked as though she was going to cry. I knew the lady-in-waiting felt she was doomed. Mom was in a great mood, though, so she didn’t get angry. Further, there was still time. The lady-in-waiting quivered as she shook Mom’s hair out and began to comb it again.

I nodded: “True.”

If the new church was a brainless organisation that acted on whims, they would only be a hazard that gives the empire grief. They, however, made a wise choice and displayed their loyalty to the royal family, which was why Mom and I didn’t plan to do anything to them. Since the two churches were both loyal and willing to serve the royal family, it didn’t matter who we chose.

Given that the new church could also serve the royal family and was a systematic religion, Elizabeth didn’t care which religion was negative. Although the old church displayed a satisfactory standard of respect and competence through the baptism, the new church did so, too. Mom initially planned to eliminate one. After the baptism, she changed her mind and decided to watch things play out from the sidelines, for their conflict didn’t affect her rule.

“This is good enough.”
