My Servant System

Chapter 1408 - 1407: What Now?

We all moved to catch Jahi, and now that multiple seconds had passed all of the others were able to regroup around us as we stared at this being standing in the midst of a Gate, bringing our advantage back to its peak and causing both Ayla and Jillian to look very worried.

They were definitely concerned about their wellbeing now, but with the presence of this being between us - a being who had caused Jahi’s attack to bounce off of it and flow back into herself to send her flying - their concern was tempered by uncertainty.

They had been saved but they were also not guaranteed to be safe going forwards depending on the whim of this being, and that was something that we all had in common right now; none of us knew the real strength of this being other than it being above all of us combined, so none of us were really too happy to be in its presence.

Especially not when we were in the middle of something as important as killing off these two nitwits who desperately needed to be removed from the face of this world; being put into a position where we were unaware of how likely that outcome would be was leaving a bad taste in our mouths, especially since we were very likely to have won right there.

That attack from Jahi should have ended Jillian, and without a melee combatant to keep us back Ayla would surely fall after that, leaving only the Arch Fiend from that group of three; only two were on the absolutely desired kill list, so if the Arch Fiend left I wouldn’t really care.

Now we were staring at them from afar with a wall of pure power keeping us separated, one that was sentient and apparently unaware of what we were hoping to achieve... and that wasn’t really comforting to me.

"I think it is rather obvious, no? We’re aiming to kill these two Elves and get rid of a scourge to our lives."

The blank mortal tilted their head and ’stared’ at us before looking over at the two Elves, studying us for a couple of seconds before it began to ’speak’ again, causing all of us to wince at its voice entering our minds directly.

| That would be a waste of talent. Tell me, is this necessary? Are you unable to set aside your differences for something greater? You stand at the precipice between worlds, given the opportunity to ascend to greater heights; is your feud worth all of that? |

The detachment of emotion in that ’voice’ was extremely telling as we all shared looks, with even Jillian looking at us with the same confused expression as she too weighed the beings words, causing another wave of power to wash over us as it spoke again.

| I understand. Something was done that created an ’irreparable’ rift between both sides. However, nothing is irreparable. Nothing is without price, without change. So let me ask again; you stand at a precipice between worlds where the opportunity for greatness shines brightly. Is this feud worth opportunity? |
