Chapter 308 - 306: I Must Repay [Update 1]
At 6 PM, she heard Liam Spencer return while she was in the bedroom, quickly got up from the bed, hobbled to the door, closed her bedroom door, and then picked up her phone to order dinner for him.
In the living room, Liam Spencer saw the handbag on the coffee table and knew Maya Spencer had returned.
He thought about how Maya Spencer lost herself to Lillian Morris last night, choked up, stood in the middle of the living room, and stared at her handbag for quite a while.
He stepped forward, and when he reached her room door, he contemplated knocking several times but ultimately gave up, instead returning to the study by himself, because he didn’t know how to greet her after Maya Spencer opened the door for him.
In the bedroom, Maya Spencer heard the delivery arrive, and only then did she open the door, enduring the pain in her body, hobbling to open the front door to collect the food.
At the door, the delivery boy saw the scars on Maya Spencer’s chin and neck, as well as the marks on her hand, almost dropping the dinner out of fright.
He looked at Maya Spencer’s pale face and red eyes, swallowed hard, and cautiously asked, "Miss Hanson, have you been experiencing domestic violence?"
Upon hearing the delivery boy’s words, Maya Spencer hurriedly forced a smile to explain, "No, I accidentally fell."
The lie she told wasn’t something the delivery boy would believe! Falling could bruise a neck, leave marks on a wrist—how magical was that!
Though Maya Spencer wore long clothes, they couldn’t conceal the fact that her whole body was injured. Since Maya Spencer deliberately concealed it, the delivery boy naturally didn’t press on.
When he handed the dinner to Maya Spencer, he kindly advised, "Miss Hanson, you don’t look very well, eating delivery food isn’t nutritious. If possible, you should make yourself a soup to nourish yourself."
In the study, Liam Spencer didn’t close the door, so he heard the noises outside clearly.
When the delivery boy mentioned Maya Spencer’s poor complexion, Liam Spencer realized she had recently undergone a massive blood transfusion.
At the door, Maya Spencer listened to the delivery boy’s advice, smiled at him, and said, "Thank you!"
"No worries." The boy saw Maya Spencer’s tired smile, packed up his delivery box, and left.
In the dining room, after setting up the food, Maya Spencer hobbled towards Liam Spencer’s study, gently knocking on the door to remind him, "Time to eat."
Her voice was soft and gentle, without any emotion, and certainly without hatred towards him. It was calm and unconcerned, as if he were someone unfamiliar.
At the desk, the man listened to her gentle voice, feeling inexplicably heartached, and the sensation pained his palms.
When he lifted his head and glanced at Maya Spencer standing at the door, he unconsciously choked up; the girl’s complexion was poor, as if she was drained of blood, lifeless, and her gaze hollow. The once arrogant and domineering Maya Spencer could not be seen in her at all.
Maya Spencer looked at the man’s gaze, slowly lowered her head, turned around, silently returned to the dining room, and served food for him, waiting for him to come out.
After Maya Spencer left, Liam Spencer also stood up from the desk and headed to the dining room. Watching the girl hobble and busy herself at the dining table made his chest feel tight once again.
When Maya Spencer returned to her seat, she was directly facing Liam Spencer, their eyes met, and Maya Spencer forced a smile at him and said, "All set."
The man looked at the girl, who seemed indifferent in her injured state, feeling both pained and resentful.
He took a deep breath, and when sitting at the table, he looked at the non-nutritious dishes, immediately placed the chopsticks on the table and said, "Let’s go out to eat."
Upon hearing the man’s proposal, Maya Spencer bit her chopsticks placed at her mouth, thought for a moment, then raised her head, looked at him, and said, "I won’t go out."
Seeing her refusal, Liam Spencer immediately frowned.
He actually wanted to take Maya Spencer to a restaurant for some good food and nutritious soup, but he didn’t expect such a ’compliant’ her to refuse.
Maya Spencer watched the man’s furrowed brows, fearing he’d get angry, fearing he’d start an argument, so she hurriedly explained, "I’m not feeling well, it’s inconvenient to go out."
At this moment, Maya Spencer was exhausted physically and mentally. She was really afraid of him getting angry, afraid of him shouting at her or pulling her. She couldn’t bear it anymore, whether physically or mentally.
The girl explained, which reminded Liam Spencer of how she had been hobbling even while walking earlier, presumably due to real pain, which was why she didn’t want to go out. Moreover, with so many injuries, not wishing to go out was understandable.
Thus, he picked up his chopsticks again and resumed eating silently.
Every time he swallowed his food, his throat felt sour; the food had no flavor in his mouth.
Next to him, seeing Liam Spencer pick up his chopsticks again, Maya Spencer finally relaxed, also bowed her head, and started eating.
At the end of dinner, Liam Spencer unexpectedly took the initiative to clean up the bowls and chopsticks.
Maya Spencer watched the man’s initiative, standing aside, couldn’t help but sneer, thinking, was he feeling guilty after seeing the injuries on her? Or perhaps the client she accompanied yesterday signed a big deal with him, earning him much money, thus he was in a good mood, being proactive to help.
But, these reasons no longer mattered; nothing mattered to her anymore. As long as he didn’t go crazy, didn’t randomly lash out, it was fine.
In the evening, when Maya Spencer lay in bed ready to rest, the door was pushed open by Liam Spencer.
Seeing the man wearing his bathrobe, Maya Spencer couldn’t help but swallow, suddenly frightened for no reason, wondering, did her injuries stimulate him, making him want to engage in some specialized sport?
Thinking this, Maya Spencer hurriedly sat up from the bed, grabbed the thin blanket beside her, and covered herself.
At the door, Liam Spencer looking at her vigilant stance, his expression was not pleasant, but he didn’t lose temper with her, instead, slowly walked to the side of the big bed, sat beside her, raised his right hand, pinched her chin, and asked, "Does the game continue?"
Upon hearing the word ’game’ from the man, Maya Spencer’s eyes instantly reddened; she had walked a round through hell’s gate, yet in his eyes, it was nothing but a game.
She looked at the man’s gaze, expecting her to admit defeat, thinking he wanted to strike Lillian Morris with a fatal blow while she admitted defeat, then ruin both of them.
Since she had already taken the first step, how could she leave herself any room to retreat; otherwise the suffering she endured last night would be for nothing?
Hence, she swallowed hard, stared directly into Liam Spencer’s eyes, smiled, and said, "What difference does it make to accompany once or a hundred times? Anyway, I’m already ruined."
The man looked at her stubbornness, finally finding a glimpse of the past in her; she was still that contrarian Maya Spencer who refused to admit defeat.
Then, he exhaled deeply, his brows tightly furrowed, staring into Maya Spencer’s eyes, and asked, "Maya Spencer, is it worth it?"
She said, "This is my debt, I have to repay it."
