Thought to myself, isn’t this old guy supposed to have retired? A mere scandal brought him out?

So Maya stopped in her tracks, stood in the middle of the living room, and stared at the TV, wondering what the old guy was about to do.

On TV, once everything was ready, Old Master Spencer took a deep breath, nodded, and smiled at the media friends.

Jane Spencer sat beside him, her expression looking somewhat awkward.

Then, Old Master Spencer began to speak. He said, "This press conference has nothing to do with Spencer Clan Group. As an elder, as the head of the Spencer Family, I need to clarify some matters to everyone, to offer some explanations, and certainly, to clear the name of the Spencer’s prospective granddaughter-in-law."

"I believe everyone has heard about the two pieces of news regarding my grandson yesterday."

"Today, I, as his grandfather, have come to inform everyone of some facts to prevent being misled by incomplete information and causing harm to innocent people."

"After seeing the news yesterday, I couldn’t sleep the entire night, so I hastily called this media conference today just to tell everyone that Miss Hanson is not the mistress everyone has called her, but is indeed the prospective granddaughter-in-law of our Spencer Family."

"As for Miss Shaw, the Spencer and Shaw families have always enjoyed good relations, and Liam Spencer and Hartley Shaw have been childhood friends, with nothing more than a friendship between them. Miss Hanson is low-key, so she avoids attending banquets with us, leading to such a big misunderstanding."

"I, Spencer, hereby assure everyone that Liam Spencer has never two-timed anyone. He’s always been a responsible man, so please stop the malicious accusations and let the involved parties return to a peaceful life."

"Thank you, everyone!"

After Old Master Spencer finished speaking, a reporter quickly asked, "Chairman Spencer, why didn’t the third young master hold his press conference himself, and why did you hold it instead? Was this marriage arranged by the elders, and the third young master initially disagreed?"

Old Master Spencer listened to the reporter’s sharp question, took a deep breath, glared at him, and answered, "This matter concerns the reputation of our Spencer Family. Is my explanation as Michael Spencer not weighty enough?"

"Chairman Spencer, that’s not what I meant. I meant why the two parties involved were not present to clarify."

"Liam Spencer and Miss Hanson will officially announce their relationship later. Why are you so anxious? Are you the one getting married?"

Seeing his grandfather being agitated by the reporter, Jane Spencer hurriedly helped him up and explained to the reporter, "I’m sorry, the press conference is over, please don’t trouble the elderly gentleman any longer."

In the villa’s living room of Maya Spencer, she finished watching the brief press conference, completely flabbergasted.

She thought to herself, what kind of situation is this, how has she suddenly been announced as the Spencer Family’s prospective granddaughter-in-law, did they discuss this with her?

At the dinner a week ago, didn’t she already state that the marriage was to be put on hold?

Maya felt that she had been duped.

So she grabbed her bag and headed straight to the Hanson Clan Group to find her uncle.

In the Hanson Clan Group Chairman’s office, Aron Hanson heard the sound of a door being pushed open hurriedly and immediately recognized who had arrived.

Looking at Maya’s fiery demeanor, he raised his head casually, looked at her, and reproached indifferently, "You’re a grown woman now, be more reserved."

Listening to her uncle’s reprimand, Maya took a deep breath and impatiently said, "Uncle, did you see the press conference just now? That old fellow Michael decided everything on his own."

"I know. Jane just called me to explain."

Watching her uncle’s calmness, Maya completely lost her cool, saying, "The old guy is using tricks for his own purposes, and the photos from yesterday were definitely released by him."

While watching the press conference just now, Maya understood everything. The old man was forcing things.

He clearly knows that she and Liam don’t get along and that neither of them intends to be together, yet he insisted on forcing them together.

His intentions were transparent to Maya; he simply wanted the three companies to be tied together to solidify the status of Spencer Clan.

After all, Spencer Clan has only recently made its way into being a top-tier enterprise and surely wants to grab some pillars to continue its climb.

That old geezer is shameless, using such coercive tactics; will he take all that money into his coffin?

Aron looked at Maya with her angry expression, raised his head, and slowly advised her, "Maya, be polite, how can you speak about Chairman Spencer like that."

Maya, seeing her uncle protecting her grandfather, refused to relent. She grasped his desk with both hands, stared straight at Aron, and earnestly said, "He is exactly that. Initially, he agreed only to let us meet, and if there was no intention, the marriage would no longer be mentioned. Now, with what he’s done, what is this? Preempting the situation?"

Then she continued, "I said back then that there’s no need to give face to the Spencer Family. Yet, you insisted that since they’re old, give them a bit of respect, just treat it as a meal."

"But look at it now, give him an inch, he takes a mile. Isn’t this forcing people into difficult positions?"

Aron watched Maya ranting away, shook his head helplessly; it was rare to see her talk so much, like a machine gun.

He calmly said, "Why are you panicking? Isn’t there still Liam Spencer?"

Looking at her uncle’s carefree demeanor, Maya felt utterly helpless.

Thus, she hopelessly said, "Uncle, you totally don’t understand Liam. He has some odd habit of not arguing with the elderly. In the face of Grandpa’s press conference, he’ll likely turn a blind eye."

"And even if he has an idea, there’s nothing we can do now. If we held a press conference denying the relationship, it would smear all three companies, and people would think we were sensationalizing, fooling the public, leading to a steep drop in Hanson Clan stocks, and I just signed a contract with Liam Spencer recently. If I start causing trouble, I’ll certainly be criticized."

Although the lawyer hasn’t completed the paperwork for the shares her grandfather promised her, and the Hanson Clan Group has yet to have any part of her, she doesn’t want to drag Hanson Clan down because of her relationship troubles.

The dilemma is, now she isn’t just Maya Spencer but also represents Hanson Clan Group.

"Haha!" Aron couldn’t help laughing at Maya’s analysis and said, "I thought your little brain was only good for studying! Turns out you’re also quite adept at analyzing people’s minds."

After jesting, he said earnestly, "I understand Chairman Spencer’s intentions very well, though Jane Spencer just called to explain that Grandpa was concerned about the unpleasant impression of you being labeled a mistress, hence calling the press conference. Still, I’m sticking to what I always say—if Maya doesn’t wish to marry, then you won’t."

Aron’s generosity deeply moved Maya. She frowned and pouted her lips, looking pitifully at Aron as she said, "Uncle, you are so understanding and righteous, I almost can’t bear to disobey you."
