Chapter 755 She Was Once Drugged (5)
The Jiabao Group hosting this press conference is a fashion icon, an enduring luxury brand. Every year, its new product launch invites celebrities from various fields to attend.
When Lu Wanwan arrived at the venue, it was exactly half-past seven.
She wore a black dress of a simple design that was neither too casual nor too formal.
A badge hung on her chest, differentiating her from the female guests attending the banquet.
Even so, when she arrived at the main banquet hall, she still attracted quite a bit of attention.
The press area was at the back of the venue, and Lu Wanwan entered before the fashion show had begun.
Sitting in the front row were naturally the guests who had received invitations; each seat had the name of a guest written on it.
Some people didn’t have profile pictures and, since there were many whom Lu Wanwan had not met, it wasn’t easy to identify which of them were the young entrepreneurs who qualified to be on the cover of this issue.
Fortunately, she had a guest list and had asked her assistant to check and send over the refined list, complete with everyone’s background, which she then matched with each person in their seats.
Lu Wanwan looked at the list and briefs, mentally ranking them by their companies’ market value and fame, while waiting to see where the most prioritized individuals were seated.
Before she had been observing for long, she suddenly saw Gu Annan’s name among the priority guests in the first row, which gave her pause.
It was then that she remembered something; after leaving the clinic due to the time crunch, she had immediately gone to change her clothes and prepare for work, even managing to squeeze in time to cook dinner for the two children.
In her rush to get to the venue, she herself hadn’t even eaten, arriving hungry and forgetting all about returning Gu Annan’s phone call.
However, it seemed he hadn’t called either, which probably meant that the dinner appointment that evening, including the cooperation with MG, was not particularly urgent.
Just as she was about to continue reviewing the list, she suddenly remembered that Gu Annan had given her a phone, instructing her to keep it on 24 hours a day.
That phone had felt almost non-existent given that only Gu Annan knew its number.
She had even forgotten to switch it back on after previously turning it off.
She immediately stopped paying attention to the guest list and took out that phone, powering it on.
After the startup screen, indeed there was a missed call.
The number was from Gu Annan’s office, clearly his own.
Even though there was just one missed call, she put down the guest list she had intended to continue with and dialed Gu Annan’s number.
"The number you have dialed is currently unavailable..."
Listening to the mechanical voice on the phone, Lu Wanwan felt a headache coming on.
It seemed Gu Annan was also busy, not even keeping his phone on.
Since that was the case, she might as well focus on her work; she could ask him about it once he arrived.
"MG? The one from the Jiu Family?" The first man to get her business card quickly shifted his gaze from the card to her. "Interested in an exclusive interview with me?"
Lu Wanwan eyed the man, not on her list, who looked at her with ill intentions, his gaze shifting uncertainly.
She abruptly remembered a director named Wei Cheng.
"Just asking, if you’re not interested, let’s forget it." She immediately became aloof, not even wanting to engage him further.
Even in such a glamourous place, normal people wouldn’t dare act out of line.
"If you’re interested, will you be the one to do the interview?" the man asked with a smirk.
"No," Lu Wanwan replied, her voice even colder, putting even more distance between them.
The man felt embarrassed, and his improper intentions faded.
After all, it wasn’t worth losing face over a woman at such an important event.
