Chapter 336: Reborn

He Li stayed beside the golden sphere and watched it everyday. He doesn’t know how long he will have to wait but he doesn’t care. He knew that this was not even enough for what he did to him.

No. 22 left the sphere inside No. 444’s room due to his urgent mission that he has to leave yet unexpectedly, that will be the last time since he saw him. Since then, No. 22 didn’t pay a single visit. No one did.

This room was left as it is as if everyone just forgot about the grim reaper. Initially, he was very worried that something might happen to the unprotected golden sphere but after a long time, this room seems to be isolated by the world outside.

There was no noise nor any disturbance.

All he could do was stare all day at the sphere or fall into the memories in this life. He Li had long forgotten the concept of time inside that room. He didn’t know what changed outside nor what happened. But what does he care about anyway? The only one was here.

He Li lay on the bed with the sphere just a tiny distance away from his face. During many nights where he spent here, he only stayed in one chair. Both don’t need to rest their body but they will spend a night here quietly. He watched the man just lay on the bed and stared at the ceiling with hidden thoughts on him.

He doesn’t know what’s going on his mind but he himself doesn’t have.

He didn’t even know it himself but his eyes would just unknowingly stare at him. A night filled with silence but there was a tranquility that he liked the most.

It was as if just by merely seeing his presence brings a peace inside him that he didn’t even notice.

Now it was him who lay on the bed. He was not here and the loneliness started creeping inside his heart so could only desperately stare at the golden sphere beside him and repeatedly tell himself to wait because he will be back again beside him.

He Li didn’t even expect how much he yearned for someone else.

But if it’s him, it’s worth feeling for.

Until one ordinary night, while he was sitting near the window and just staring blankly at the dark sky, he felt a strange movement beside him.

He quickly turns his head and gasps when he sees the runes around the sphere start to move. It starts to circle around the golden sphere and emit a golden light.

He jolted and dashed towards the sphere with nervousness and anticipation. His hands turned into fist and his jaw clenched to surpass his feelings. It seems that fate heard his anticipation and longing that after a moment of waiting, the runes finally stop circling around and integrate inside the golden sphere. The golden light glows even more, covering the whole sphere.

In the next second, the golden sphere disappeared and a familiar figure flashed in front of him.

"!!!!" He Li abruptly stood up. His eyes were full of surprise and joy. A man wearing his usual attire as a grim reaper was seen laying peacefully on his bed.

Unlike when he was laying in that ground, lifeless and cold as a corpse, he could see the light movement on his chest, telling him clearly that the man in front of him is no longer dead.

He’s back.

No. 444 is back!

Only when he screamed inside his mind that everything finally snapped on him. His knees weakened and he moved himself to lean down while his eyes remained staring at the man.

"It’s been a long time, Ah Si," he softly greeted the man. The corner of his eyes reddened and he was forced to swallow the emotions that wanted to escape from his lips. Even if he knew that he could not hear him, he never wanted any possibility to disturb this moment.

The newly reborn grim reaper in front of him doesn’t have the sharpness around him. There was no natural coldness between his brows and he was just peacefully sleeping.

This was the grim reaper who is just pure like a blank canvas.

He Li continued to stare as if he couldn’t feel enough. No, when can he? It’s been so long that he couldn’t remember how long he waited.

All the pain and longing that filled his heart everyday left and only joy was left on him. He’s happy. He’s truly glad that he’s alive again.

Those years of waiting were truly worth it.

After that night, He Li began watching the grim reaper’s life again. It was as if the man didn’t die and those past were like a written future that’s carved for him because the personality and even how he looked at the world remained the same.

The same when he doesn’t have a heart nor anyone on his side.

No. 444 grew as he did in the past. Full of diligence and responsibility as a grim reaper who only knew how to fight against the endless enemies. His personality stayed aloof and indifference as if he didn’t care about anything in this world.

As if he was just born to work as a grim reaper again.

But being on his side, he knew what changed him was certainly his way to guide souls. Even if he doesn’t have a heart nor an emotion to feel, he would not force any souls to leave but rather just quietly stand in the corner to watch them. He wouldn’t give away his merit but he was not heartless to leave them in suffering.

The grim reaper that has been reborn, he knew that the goodness in his heart just remained inside.

It’s just that he seemed to forget everything. He started from the start and looks very unaware of the unconscious choices he was making. Whether he would instinctively pause for a second when he saw the souls crying or when he saw his colleagues together.

He Li remained on his side throughout many years and he watched the man struggle with confusion.

His heart aches.

He knew what’s hidden in those eyes.

It was longing. Ah Si wanted a heart again.

So many centuries had passed and every time he watched the man sitting on a high place and stared at the sky with a blank face, he wanted to speak as much as he could. To tell him that he was not alone.

He Li grew an intense emotion inside his heart again. A desire. An endless yearning that seems to burst in his chest. He thought that just by watching him alive again, he would be really happy. He thought that if he had a life again, everything would be back as it should be.

Yet seeing him full of doubt and uncertainties, he felt that staying like this is not enough.

This is not how it should be.

His Ah Si should not live like this.

Only now that he fully understands that no matter how he looked the same as in the past, there was something different.

A heart.

In this new life, this grim reaper has to have a heart to live again.
